The Genesis is the newest basic adjustable bed by Customatic Adjustable Bedz. Contolled with a hard-wired remote, there are several features it does not have, such as massage and Wall Glide. In appearance, it resembles the Activa, which has been Customatic's entry-level model. Its introduction did not attract the same level of attention in industry news as the Visionary, Equinox and iFit Sleep System did.
Customatic begins its description of the Genesis with a question: "Tired of piling pillows to prop yourself up in bed?" The intended role of this adjustable bed is simply the ability to elevate the head and feet of the sleeper to a comfortable position to facilitate a night of quality sleep. The Activa has a Head and Leg SYNC Postion Adjustment, which is not in the Genesis' description.
The remote control for the Genesis is wired to the base. The advantage of this is to keep from losing the remote–if you don't see it, just follow the wire. This highlights the principal disadvantage of wireless remotes: they can be easily misplaced.
Like all Customatic Adjustable Bedz models, the Genesis is mounted on a heavy-duty steel frame and equipped with electric motors capable of lifting normal users. A retainer bar at the foot of the deck holds the mattress in place as the bed articulates.
One important feature the Genesis does share with other Customatic models is Gravity Release, which allows gravity to lower the deck. This is a safety feature. Powered descent has the risk of malfunction leading to a too rapid lowering with an abrupt end. On the other hand, the motor(s) or gears could freeze up, not allowing the deck to come down, which would make it difficult (or for some users practically impossible) to get out of bed. Unpowered descent means that the bed can be lowered even if the electical system fails or power is lost.
Though not stated by the company, it is expected that Customatic's warranty on the Genesis will be for 20 years.
