The BAR600 Bariatric Bed made by Invacare, like the BAR750, is designed and built for bariatric (extra-heavy) clients. It has extra heavy-duty frame and motors. Two key differences between these two models are the weight capacity and the width.
The BAR600 is designed to hold up to 600 pounds, including mattress, patient, linens & coverings, and mounted medical equipment, while the BAR750 holds up to 750 lbs.
The BAR600 is 42" wide, while the BAR750 has a choice of 39" or 42" or 48" in width. At 42", the BAR600 is wider than conventional beds (Single/Twin size is 38" wide). The 88" frame is longer than conventional King and Queen sizes (80"), while the sleeping surface (mattress) is 80" long.
Among the shared features of the BAR600 and the BAR750 is the split-spring mattress base. Separating the base makes transporting and setting up these bariatric beds easier. While on lighter healthcare adjustable beds the mattress base is an articulated bedspring, on the Invacare Bariatric Beds this is a series of slats. Comparing photos of the Bar600 and BAR750 shows that the 750 has heavier slats than the 600, accounting in part for the heavier weight capacity. The way in which they articulate also contributes to the capacity.
Also shared by the two models are universal bed ends, again facilitating setup (special tools are not required), a control pendant for dynamic positioning, heavy-duty quiet motors, and smooth operation. The BAR600 has easy-release motor mounts and an emergency crank to lower any raised portion of the bed without electric power.
The Invacare BAR600 is to be used with the BARMATT42, Invacare's 42" wide bariatric foam mattress. This model is available through several authorized Invacare authorized dealers. The price is considerably less than the BAR750, making it attractive if the client is 500 lbs. or less. The warranty covers the frame for 5 years and the electrical components for 1 year.
