Serta Motion Essentials II

The Motion Essentials II is the new entry level model in the Serta Motion Adjustable Foundations Collection sold by Serta, a leading manufacturer of mattresses. It is an updated version of Serta's Motion Essentials, which it replaces in the adjustable beds lineup. In contrast with the earlier models, such as Motion Essentials, Motion Perfect and Motion Signature, which are manufactured by Ergomotion, this model is apparently made by Leggett & Platt.

Serta calls the Motion Essentials II "Our most basic adjustable foundation." It is the simplest Serta Motion base. Although it is a basic adjustable bed without the added features of more advanced models, it is compatible with most of Serta's mattresses (with the exception of those Perfect Sleeper models which have the Classic 520 continuous coil innerspring).

According to Serta's comparison chart, the Motion Essentials II has Zero Clearance Design, Gravity Release safety feature, compatability with headboards (brackets optional), the accessory options, Smooth Power Lifting System, and Next Generation Silent Drive motors. That is less than half the features listed for the Motion Perfect II. One of the features missing is the Wall Saver which keeps the head in line with the nightstand.

The Zero Clearance Design means the Motion Essentials II can fit within the wooden frame of a traditional bed or a sleigh bed.

Gravity Release means that the bed is lowered to the flat position by gravity, not by power. There is enough resistance to keep the bed sections from coming down too fast. This also means that power is not needed to lower the bed if the electicity is cut off.

The Smooth Power Lifting System is driven by Next Generation's Silent Drive motors, one for the head and one for the feet. With Smooth Power, the power in articulation is gradually increased to make adjustments feel seamless. The lifting capacity is 650 pounds. The Motion Essentials II also has a Zero Standby PowerSystem, so that it uses a half watt or less of electricity when not being used. Emergency batteries enable the user to lower the bed when the power is out.

The standard leg height is 7", putting the deck 9¼" above the floor in the flat position. The optional leg accessory kit has 2", 3", 4" and 5" legs for those who want a lower deck (such as with a higher mattress). A retainer bar at the foot of the bed keeps the mattress in place.

The Serta Motion Essentials II Adjustable Foundation is available through several retailers, both online and in stores. It is covered by Leggett & Platt's 20-year limited warranty.
