Spaldin Sleep Systems, Inc., otherwise known as Spaldin Natural Sleep, is the North American subsidiary of Industrias Tobía, S.A. (Tobia Industries) of La Rioja, Spain. It is a producer/supplier of specialty sleep products (non-spring mattresses and beds). Spaldin has been operating in the United States at least since 2008. According to their facebook page, Tobia Industries was established in 1950. The CEO of Spaldin Sleep Systems is Oscar Valdemoros, grandson of the founder. Spaldin identifies itself as a maker of "green" sleep products. The use of "Natural Sleep" refers to the goal of making sleep as naturally comfortable as what the baby experienced in its mother's womb. According to bedding industry news sources, this company was an early developer of the use of plant-polyols in manufacturing polyurethane foam and its derivatives (such as memory foam). Spaldin products also use other natural materials, such as cotton and latex. In 2012, Spaldin Sleep Systems recieved "the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class I certification for its full line." Spaldin makes use of reticulated foam to keep mattresses both dry and cool.
Brand names used by Spaldin for their mattresses currently are Tobia and Gemma. At this time, five models are sold in the U.S. through various online retailers. These are Tobia Innovation Eco-Superior Firm Foam Mattress, Tobia Memory Plus Eco-Superior Memory Foam Mattress, Tobia Tubes 7-zone Foam Mattress, Gemma Thermal Comfort Firm Memory Foam Mattress, and Gemma Thermal Comfort Plush Memory Foam Mattress.
