Hamilton Firm and Hamilton Plush

Hamilton Firm and Hamilton Plush are the two least expensive models of Chattam & Wells models for sale in the United States in the first quarter of 2016. These 12" mattresses have the standard C&W features of the Chattam Quilt, Chattam Edge, high-resiliency foam, high-density polyurethane foam, and knotted offset coils.

What differentiates these two similar models is the amount of padding in the quilt. The Hamilton Firm, with the lesser padding, is very firm, while the Hamilton Plush is medium firm.

The heart of these innerspring mattresses is the spring unit of 450 Hinge-Flex Plus offset coils. Better at adjusting to a sleeper's body weight than Bonnell coils and continuous coils, offset coils (invented by Francis Karr, founder of SpringAir) vie with pocket coils for placement in premium mattresses.

Above the coils is a transition layer of high resiliency polyurethane foam.

The cover of Chattam & Wells mattresses, including the Hamilton Plush and Hamilton Firm, is the Chattam Quilt. The fabric is a 4-way stretch knit with Tencel fibers. Tencel (a trade name for Lyocell) is, like rayon and Modal, regenerated cellulose. However, the means of producing it differs. The process is more acceptable environmentally, and the final fiber is better at wicking moisture.

The Tencel fabric is quilted to a fire resistant layer and padding. The FR is Joma wool, a federally mandated measure without toxic chemicals. The padding is convoluted high-density polyurethane foam, more in the Plush, less in the Firm.

The Hamiton Firm and Hamilton Plush are sold in the United States by select dealers of premium mattresses, such as California Luxury Mattress. The C&W Amish-made wood foundation comes in either standard or low profile height.

Chattam Foundation

The mattresses have a 90 Day Comfort Guarantee and a 20-year limited warranty.
