The models in the Sleeping Beauty Collection by Kingsdown are innerspring mattresses manufactured by Kingsdown, Inc., of Mebane, North Carolina, which has been in business for 100+ years. These mattresses are sold through retailers such as Sleepy's, Baer, Carolina Mattress & Furniture, Sears, Sears Canada, and others. This is what Kingsdown says about the Sleeping Beauty collection:
"Sleeping Beauty® mattresses are upholstered in exquisite fabrics, feature long-lasting resiliency, and are constructed with components that are proven by decades of research. With multiple styles and comfort levels at every price point, it's easy to understand why Sleeping Beauty® is known as the most affordable, eye-catching premium line in the industry."
There are several series of mattresses in the Sleeping Beauty Collection, with names such as Advantage, Ashleigh, Statesman, Elisa, Celeste and Collins. Each of these features individually pocketed, tempered steel coils (Cushion Cloud® Construction) topped by comfort layers (Low Pressure® Sleep Surface) and enclosed with foam encasement (Full Body Surround®).
Kingsdown advertises the Cushion Cloud Construction as properly supporting the spine, while the Low Pressure Sleep Surface keeps pressure points from building up. They employ what they call Vertical Zoning® in the comfort layers to optimize body conformity. Edge-to-edge support of the sleeping surface is what Full Body Surround is to provide.
Most, if not all, of the Sleeping Beauty Collection mattresses have gel-infused memory foam in the upper layers to counter build-up of body heat. In several models, the density and resilience of the foam are zoned to tailor the contour of support for sections of the sleeper's body, more support where it is needed.
With the choices of covers and the top layer -- including Euro-top, pillow-top, and box-top among others -- the Sleeping Beauty mattresses vary from 131/4" to 151/2" in height.
Warranties also vary, from 20 years non-prorated to Lifetime. Kingsdown has an A+ Better Business Bureau rating.
I received a Kingsdown Kristen mattress/box spring in April of 2013 as a direct replacement with a $400 fee from the manufacturer for an original discontinued mattress/box spring from October of 2006.
After only one year the Kristen REPLACEMENT mattress has already softened with bulges, lumps and sagging and feels much like sleeping on the side of a small hill.
I religiously follow the Kingsdown recommendation from the Owner’s Manual and rotate the mattress every three months and even have to change sides of the bed every week or so to try to find a comfortable and firm side of the bed without all of the aforementioned.
After many mornings of waking up with a stiff back, I made a warranty claim with inspection to no avail as it didn’t meet the company’s selective and self-serving criteria. Their response letter was filled with inaccuracies and merely quoted their standard minimum policy.
After purchasing two “high end” beds from this company, I would NOT recommend investing $2000+ in any of their product lines!
Mattress Rating: Mattress Comfort:
Within a year the mattress has already softened with bulges, lumps and sagging and feels much like sleeping on the side of a small hill.
Unfortunately, when I bought this mattress I was moving and I was up to my ears in boxes for quite awhile. It was past the 21-day comfort guarantee when I noticed that I was waking up daily with a back ache (I was told by Sleepy's that it takes a couple of weeks to get used to a new mattress!). I recently contacted them about the manufacturer's warranty and they are sending me a kit to determine the amount of indentation--it needs to be 1.5 inches! That is a lot considering that the tops is probably only about 2 inches. I could kick myself for spending this kind of money ($3800) on a mattress--I slept better on my 20-year old mattress that I threw out when I bought this! Now I notice on line that the Adriana is on clearance so I guess they don't even make it any more. I should have known better because I did read bad reviews before I bought it but the manager in the Woburn store assured me that the manufacturer had changed things and he felt that was the mattress definitely the right one for me. I will never shop at a Sleepy's again.
Mattress Rating: Mattress Comfort:
I bought the Ariana about a year ago. Initially it was very comfortable but within about three months I noticed that I could not roll over because the mattress had indented so much where I was sleeping that it felt like I was sliding back down to that position.
I moved over to the other side of the bed, and then that side indented. I then tried sleeping in the middle. Every day I wake up with a back ache and it is difficult to get out of bed.
Mattress Features and Benefits as Advertised:
Two Sleepy's stores recommended this mattress--one manager told me that the manufacturer had made changes to this style and they had not received any complaints. The sales person at the store where I bought this told me she had bought four of these mattresses for her family and they loved it! That had to be a blatant lie.
