OrganicPedic Classic

The OrganicPedic Classic by Organic Mattresses, Inc. (OMI) is a hand-crafted, two-sided, 8" high, traditional innerspring mattress. Being two-sided, the Classic can be flipped to prolong the usable life of the mattress, or just to air the other side.

The springs, with a coil count of 660 in queen size, are the Bonnell style. The hour-glass shaped coils, open at each end, are tied into a grid with spiral wires. Though they are linked to each other, each coil can still respond individually, within limits, to weight placed directly on it (beyond a certain point, of course, the coil will pull on those next to it). This cuts motion transfer somewhat, reducing sleep partner disturbance, while allowing the mattress to adjust to a sleeper's body contours and weight. Extra strong side springs provide the edge support for the Classic.

The OrganicPedic Classic is, as the name implies, an organic mattress. Materials used throughout, besides steel spring wire, are
~ Organic cotton canvas, padding, cover fabric and thread
~ 100% pure natural rubber latex
~ Untreated wool (Eco-Wool)

The organic cotton is grown in the United States without the use of pesticides or herbicides. It is also washed and handled without the use of chemicals. The advantage of being grown in the same country as OMI is that it is not sprayed or otherwise treated with pesticides, fungicides, etc. for overseas shipping.

The natural latex (rubber) in the OrganicPedic Classic is made from the sap of the Brasilian rubber tree (cultivated in Southeast Asia). The sap is sealed and shipped to the United States, where it is processed into rubber latex.

Eco-Wool is from sheep raised in the United States. These sheep are not put through chemical insecticide dips, After the wool is shorn, it is not treated with chemicals, but cleaned with soap and pure water. It has the same advantage in domestic production as the organic cotton.

The innerspring of the OrganicPedic Classic is covered on both sides by organic cotton canvas. This is to both keep the padding from entangling the coils and to protect the padding. This organic cotton canvas is also used between the padding and the quilted cover.

The organic cotton padding, which is organically sanitized, is hand-layered in several layers on each side of the Bonnell innerspring unit. These layers, along with the canvas, are tufted by hand. This is to stabilize the layers, keeping them from shifting. It also is to minimize body impressions. While the coils are quite firm, the cotton padding is not quite as firm, cushioning the user.

More cushioning is provided in the OrganicPedic Classic by a layer of all-natural Talalay latex. This latex is made 100% from rubber tree sap, not blended with synthetic latex. This latex is softer than the underlying organic cotton padding, but its resiliency gives it a sense of support. Together with the innersprings and the cotton padding, it bring the firmness level of the mattress to Medium-Firm. Besides its resiliency, latex is dustmite, mildew and mold resistant. It is also breathable, to bring coolness and ventilation to the mattress, as well as being hypoallergenic.

The cover is Organic Mattresses's own "Signature OrganicPedic" Quilting. The organic cotton fabric is quilted to Eco-Wool. Wool is well-known for keeping people warm in cold weather. But its temperature moderation also helps in cooling users when it is warm. It also wicks moisture away, keeping the sleeping surface dry. But a real organic benefit is its fire resistance. Using it in the cover quilting lets the OrganicPedic Classic mattress meet federal fire resistance guidelines without using chemicals.

OMI recommend the use of a wood slat foundation for the "box spring" with the OrganicPedic Classic mattress.

The OrganicPedic Classic is made-to-order in the Organic Mattress, Inc. factory in Northern California, which is certified as a 100% organic manufacturing facility. It carries a 20-year limited warranty.
