The EvoSleep Line of memory foam mattresses is the third collection of mattresses by Sherwood Bedding Group. The Evo in EvoSleep stands for Evolution, as in the positive, progressive development of a technology or system. Or, as Sherwood defines it, "Evolution is the process by which a basic design is improved to adapt to a changing environment." The company then cites their engineers' application of progress made in the fields of materials technology, environmental sciences, and physiology to the design of mattresses.
There are two series of mattresses in the EvoSleep Collection, Conforma Cool Perfection Series and Rx Bio Medical Gel Series. The first series has three models, Perfection 3.5, Perfection 5.0 and Perfection 7.0, and the second has two, Rx 300 Firm, and Rx 500 Luxury Firm. All models have a 6" high support core of soy-based high-density support foam. And all covers contain Tencel fibers. Another shared feature is the Fire Sock with a non-chemical fire barrier of natural materials. The top comfort layer of the Cool Perfection models is gel-infused memory foam. Gel makes the memory foam more supportive, and also has an initial cooling effect since as it absorbs heat it conducts it away from the sleeping surface.
The top layer in EvoSleep's Bio Medical Series is Bio Medical Gel. Gel's semi-viscous support cradles the user in a manner similar to that of a waterbed, but without the large volume of fluid. Sherwood Bedding claims that this gel is 70% soy. The goal of this top gel layer is, according to Sherwood, "to deliver a pressure-free, temperature-neutral sleep environment with a superior level of conforming support."
The Perfection models in the Conforma Series and the Rx 500 in the Bio Medical Gel Series both use high-density memory foam. All three EvoSleep models have HD transitional memory foam, intermediate in support between the support base foam and the comfort foam. This more gradual change from the ultra firm support core to the less firm comfort materials not only make a smoother support texture for the mattress, but also prolongs the life of the mattress materials.
The covers of the Conforma Cool Perfection memory foam mattresses contain not only Tencel, but use Max Breeze Temperature Control Technology with phase change materials to regulate temperatures. On its site, Sherwood Bedding explains the reason for optimizing the temperature of the sleeping environment: "to avoid disrupting the circadian rythyms so critical to restorative rest." In other words, regulating temperature is a key to quality sleep.
The EvoSleep Line gel-foam mattresses by Sherwood Bedding Group differ from the company's innerspring mattresses in having a "fire sock" enveloping the entire mattress. Sherwood says they use "the bedding industry’s only natural flame retardant materials." They further claim to be "compliant with over 17 international flammability standards." No chemicals are applied to component materials in the mattress for fire resistance.
The preferred foundation for EvoSleep Collection mattresses is one with firm, consistent support. Foundations like this include platforms, slatted wood frames (such as the European wood slat base) with no more than 4 inches between slats, steel foundations with closley-spaced support bars, and adjustable beds.
EvoSleep mattresses carry Sherwood Bedding's 20-year waranty. The first 10 years are full coverage, and the last 10 are pro rata. They are available through a number of retailers across the country.
