| The Feather-Pedic bed by the Healing Company is a simply, yet time tested effective, design in memory foam beds. The 7 inch thick Feather-Pedic uses 2 inches of 4lb memory foam arranged above a 5 inch polyurethane foam support base. The 4lb memory foam is a ventilated design which the Healing Company calls HRC, for heat reduction channel foam. The intention of this design, using channels across the surface of the bed, is to promote air circulation as you sleep. The 4lb memory foam should be far less responsive to heat than 5+lb grades, so you should spend less time getting comfortable when you lie down than on firmer models from other manufacturers. The Healing Company Feather-Pedic also uses a simple, smooth cover to help keep cost down, and to prevent possible “lumping” that can occur in quilted covers. The cover should be light and breathable, to enhance the HRC foams airflow patterns. All mattresses from the Healing Company come with a 20 year warranty, which appears to be the normal warranty period for memory foam beds. The Feather-Pedic is apparently shipped rolled and compressed, but is not stored compressed, this will lessen any negative effects on the foam itself from being compressed. Shipping is also included when purchasing direct from the Healing Company. You should expect to pay about $700 for a queen set. Since the 4lb memory foam is usually considered a soft foam, but the actual classification for this mattress is firm. When you lie on the Feather-Pedic, you will penetrate through the memory foam fairly easily since there is only 2 inches. Your weight will then be supported by the polyurethane foam base, which does not serve to reduce pressure points as well as memory foam. There still may be some lessening of pressure points by the base foam when compared to a spring mattress. |
