ThevoautoActiv and ThevoActiv
- Pressure Ulcer Mattresses -

Two Thevo brand therapy mattresses made by Thomashilfen for professional use are decubitus mattresses (designed for the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers, also known as "bed sores"). Thevo therapy mattresses are relatively new to the United States, where they are distributed by Thomashilfen North America (formerly ExoMotion LLC). They are in direct competition with several healthcare mattresses made by Invcare.

Thevo Mobility Mattresses use a different technology than Invacare products do. Invacare, which also makes hospital beds, makes the Solace line of static mattresses and variable pressure air mattresses for pressure relief.

The key component of the ThevoActiv and ThevoautoActiv mattresses for pressure ulcers is MiS (Micro-Stimulation®). This consists of glass fiber rods with winged arms mounted on them, so it is also called Wing Suspension. The tips of each wing are slightly domed discs. They are very sensitive to any motion by the sleeper. Their movement travels through the overlying special comfort foam to relieve excess pressure.

The MiS Wing Suspention array rests on carbon fiber double-ring Pain Suspension shock absorbers. These soften the impact of any movement. Thomashilfen claims that in the TheveoautoActiv (a.k.a. AutoActiv), this system is effective in treating and preventing bed sores up to Stage III.

To this ThevoActive adds a user-controlled system of actively shifting the focus of support in the mattress for cycles of pressure relief. There are four programmes to choose from: Wave, Rotation, Inclined Plane, and Static. This is accomplished by raising the ends of the Wing Suspension rods selectively to relieve pressure at nearby points. According to the company, this is effect up to Stage IV pressure ulcers.

The ThevoautoActiv and ThevoActiv pressure ulcer relief active mattresses come with a choice of removable-washable covers: the Incontinence Cover and the Jersey Cover. The Jersey Cover is described as a breathable microclimate. The Incontinence Cover can be easily wiped clean with a disinfectant, while still being breathable.

Designed for use on flat as well a articulated (adjustable) hospital beds, the ThevoActiv and ThevoautoActiv have flexible sides so they can be used with several beds. Made for adults, they are available in lengths of 70.9 to 86.6 inches (180-220 cm) and widths of 31.5 to 47.2 inches (80-120 cm). The ThevoActive costs about 4X as much as the ThevoautoActiv.
