US Watermattress Airbeds

34173

United States Watermattress is not alone in being a manufacturer of waterbeds which also makes airbeds. Boyd Specialty Sleep, Strobel Organic Mattresses and Classic Brands began with waterbeds and now make airbeds. InnoMax began with airbeds and now also makes waterbeds. Classic no longer makes waterbeds, but they still produce airbeds. This cross-connection should not be surprising, since both require flexible fluid containers (bladders). The fluid for a waterbed is a liquid, and that for an airbed is a gas. Managing this for both types of beds involves bladder control.

US Watermattress (USW) calls its airbed models "systems." This terminology is borrowed from their line of softside waterbeds, where the bladder is called a "softside mattress," and the mattress with that bladder is called a "softside system."

USW has six airbed systems: Harrah's, Sahara, Luxor, Palms, Bellagio and Mandalay. They range from 7" to 11" in height. The descriptions of the comfort layers and the quilting are, with few differences, parallel to those of the six softside systems.

The most noticeable distinction is that all but one of the airbed cover fabrics are identified as "bamboo" (meaning rayon from bamboo), while it is unidentified on the waterbeds. The covers are removeable for cleaning.

Other comfort materials include Holofill quilting fiber, FR fiber, quilting foam, polyfoam, memory foam, and latex.

United States Watermattress makes its air chambers of vulcanized rubber (cured latex), as most airbed manufacturers do. One exception is Vinyl Products, which makes PVC air chambers.

Key features of USW airbeds are 6" fabric-wrapped foam rails, 1" foam comfort pad, dual mattresses (with 2 air chambers), and a dual digital pump. The pump has Automatic Bed Fill, which automatically fills the bed when the pressure drops. The memory on the remote, which does have accurate set points, retains the user's comfort settings. The remote itself is ergonomically designed for ease and comfort of use. The LED read-out makes it easy to use in the dark.

US Watermattress says that they can configure an airbed system to a customer's exact specifications. At least one specialty sleep (non-coil) mattress company (Habitat Furnishings) has contracted USW to collaborate on design, and to manufacture their airbeds.

USW's Airbed Systems are covered by a Lifetime Limited Warranty. prorated at 50% MSRP.
