The Albuquerque Radisson Hotel

On April 29, 2010 I checked into the Radisson hotel located on Carlisle blvd in Albuquerque, NM. The hotel was very clean and nice, with new furniture in the lobby, clean carpets, and extra-wide hallways. I checked in and proceeded directly to my room, which was on the second floor of the second building. There are three buildings in all, with the first building housing a gift shop, bar and restaurant, and several meeting halls. There is also a large garden with an indoor pool which is available all year. The second building was equally well appointed with an open-air garden and pool. Apparently, this pool was only available throughout the summer. There is also a game room and a restaurant. The third building housed the hotels water park. The water park is open on the weekends and weekdays throughout the summer. There is no admission for the theme park for registered guests and it is not available for the general public.

When I arrived at my room, there were several features which caught my attention. The room itself was larger than I had expected. There was a sofa with coffee table along with the standard desk. The office chair at the computer desk was above par for this type of hotel. The desk and table were glass-topped, and the sofa had throw pillows. The room also had a substantial balcony with a sliding glass door. I thought for a minute that my reservation had been confused for a suite, and then I realized that every room was equipped as well as mine, or better. When I laid down on the bed it took me a few minutes to get a comfortable setting on the Sleep Number bed from Select Comfort. Once I found my sleep number, which was 85, I slept well and almost uninterrupted for the entire night.

The Radisson hotel in Albuquerque was located directly across the street from a Highway Patrol field office. This was not as bad as I had anticipated due to the fact that the patrolmen only really come to the office to start or end shift as needed. Also, highway patrol vehicles patrol primarily outside of city limits, and therefore almost no activity was noted from this. We were also situated a short hop from Interstate 40, AKA Route 66, but again there was no disturbance from the traffic there. Overall, my stay was very peaceful and quiet. At some point during the night I woke and was almost startled by the lack of sound in my room. I woke early and got a shower, got dressed, and stepped into the hallway.

On the lower level of the second building is a stocked pond. There was a large waterfall, providing a noticeable and pleasing soundtrack for ambient noise, unless you are very close. If you were too close to the waterfall, you may have a hard time during a phone call, but normal conversation should be ok. Some of the rooms were directly behind the waterfall and pond, and I’m sure those rooms would have had a slight bit of waterfall noise in the room.

I returned to my room and put on a pot of coffee, and began to do a little early-morning work. I was able to connect to the hotel’s free wireless internet quickly and get online. I noticed a wired connection at the desk, and hooked into it. This wired port was apparently disabled, as I was not able to get the wired service to connect. The wireless connection would need to suffice, and was plenty fast enough to check my email and post a few updates to my schedule. For the first time, as I was trying to concentrate, I noticed the fan noise from the heating/cooling unit in the wall. This unit was recessed into a cubby beside the sliding glass door for the balcony, and was a few feet from the end of the sofa. This helped to keep the sound isolated. I finished my morning routine and packed up for departure and breakfast.

When I went down to the lobby to check out, I learned that one of the several eateries at the hotel would be opening at about 7:00am for breakfast. There was no continental breakfast available at that time. I had already put my luggage into my car, and decided to bypass the breakfast that morning. I did learn that there were several fast-food places nearby, plenty of shopping, and a few traditional restaurants nearby as well.

If I had to pick out a few things about the Radisson in Albuquerque, NM which I felt were a little inconvenient, the first would have to be the parking at the hotel. Now, don’t get the wrong idea, there is plenty of parking and you can get to an elevator or stairway easily from almost any parking area at the hotel. My concern is the flow of traffic through the parking lot. Most areas are one-way and you have to drive for a minute to get out if you park in the back or near the water park. My only other concern was that as I pulled into the hotel check-in area, I was a little surprised to learn that of the four or so double-glass-doors, only one led into the lobby. The others were entrances into the hotel bar and grill, and the first one I grabbed was locked. I didn’t check the others, and found the correct lobby after a few seconds. At Beds.org, we do not attempt to rate any hotel, or other product for that matter, but rather provide information to help you make a better decision. Having said that, my personal opinion of the Radisson hotel in Albuquerque, NM is above most others. Personally, I would have no concern recommending this hotel to family and friends. If you have the opportunity to stay there, you will understand why I say this.

Beds.org is proud to have the only hotel bed review site in the world! We feel that for far too long hotels have not been rated for the most important aspect of your stay...your sleeping surface. While some mattresses and beds offered at various hotels are new and higher end models of brands you may know well, some hotels feature mattresses and beds that are uncomfortable, unsupportive and saw better days when it was first made 20-years ago! We invite you add your own review below:
