Customatic iFit Sleep System

Here at Beds.org, we have already reviewed a few "smart" mattresses: Sleep NumberŪ x12 with Sleep IQ, SimmonsŪ Comforpedic IQ, and the Kingsdown BodyPerfect Collection. The Comforpedic IQ is a non-intelligent self-adjusting system, directly responding to pressure. However, the x12 and BodyPerfect monitor the sleepers, and electronically decide and make adjustments in air pressure to optimize sleep. Sleep Number partnered with BAM Labs, a maker of touchless health monitoring systems.

Now Customatic Adjustable Bedz has entered the field of smart beds. Working with ICON Health & Fitness, an entire sleep system has been designed utilizing ICON's iFit technology. This combines a Customatic adjustable bed with a mattress and a mattress pad and the iFit monitoring system.

ICON is the umbrella company for NordicTrack, Reebok, ProForm, and several other fitness businesses. iFit monitors body functions, such as breathing and heart rate, and adjusts fitness equipment accordingly. It also records the monitoring data in a data base via internet apps, so when a customer is using a different device on that network, that customer's profile is used for that machine. According to ICON, "iFIT-compatibility is exclusive to ProForm, NordicTrack, Image, Reebok and HealthRider equipment." Now they can add Customatic Bedz.

This summer (2015), Customatic introduced its iFit Sleep System, which uses ICON's iFit technology to track sleeping and waking activity with resulting adjustments to the bed. For customers who also use iFit fitness and conditioning equipment, this is tied in with their sleep for overall fitness management.

While users of the Customatic iFit Sleep System are sleeping, their breathing rates, heart rates, REM cycles, sleep times, movememts, etc. are logged and analyzed. These are also correlated to other data from fitness training, even everyday activity monitoring if they are subscribed and equipped for that.

Obviously, this approach goes beyond the use of a remote control to adjust the position of an adjustable bed, massage functions, and pressure in air chambers in an airbed. Being tied into a network, this also goes beyond local monitoring and adjustament. Officials of Customatic Adjustable Bedz claim that this new apporach will improve their customers' sleep and health.
