Flex-A-Bed Hi-Low

The Hi-Low adjustable bed by Flex-A-Bed is the closest to a hospital bed of adjustable beds designed and sold for home use by the top 6 adjustable base manufacturers.

The two features accounting for this are the height adjustment function and the optional side rails. According to Flex-A-Bed, "The Flex-A-Bed Hi-Low is the ideal bed for those in home healthcare, or assisted living environments." Still, they caution, "A Flex-a-bed adjustable bed should not be considered as an alternative to a hospital bed. A physician should be consulted when health issues are involved as to the appropriateness of an adjustable bed."

The height of the foundation is 26" at rest and can be raised to 33". Legs, leg extensions and casters (or their removal) can select the rest height within a range of 24 to 31 inches. Selecting the height of the bed better facilitates health care. The bed can be raised to an optimum height for the healthcare provider, and lowered for ease in helping the patient in and out of bed or transferring to/from a wheelchair.

Although Flex-A-Bed Hi-Low adjustable beds are listed and shown on the manufacturer's and retailers' websites with mattresses, the base is also available without a mattress. However, customers should check to see whether their mattresses are compatible with the Hi-low.

If a customer chooses to buy the Flex-A-Bed Hi-Low with a mattress, the choices are innerspring, memory foam or latex or hybrid.

The Flex-A-Bed Hi-Low is powered by 3 "whisper quiet" motors made by Lanak. It is controlled with a hand-held remote, which can be wired or wireless. The motors are for the head, the feet, and the height.

Flex-A-Bed says the material in the 4" profile padded base (not the frame) is Advantech. The casters can be locked so the bed will not move while the patient is being attended to. The Flex-A-Bed Hi-Low is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full and Queen sizes. Two Twin XL beds can be linked for a King size bed. Also, a TXL Hi-Low can be used with a TXL Premier or Value Flex when only one spouse needs the height adjustment feature.

Flex-A-Bed Hi-Low adjustable beds come with a 5-year limited warranty. They are available through Flex-A-Bed, health care equipment dealers, and some furniture and bedding stores.
