E. S. Kluft & Company

E. S. Kluft & Company, a family-owned firm based in Southern California, is a maker of luxury mattresses. Kluft was founded by Earl S. Kluft, who was born into a mattress manufacturing family and raised in the industry: "Mr Kluft, ... a third generation mattress patriarch, was the founder, former owner, and creator of the Chattam & Wells mattresses." Mr. Kluft is the chief designer of the Kluft beds.

In 2004, E. S. Kluft bought the Aireloom Bedding Company after King Karpen, the owner of Aireloom, died. Karpen bought the mattress portion of his family's furniture business in 1950 and built it up as a maker of beds for the rich and the famous, including Ronald and Nancy Reagan who furnished the White House with Aireloom mattresses. Kluft designed the next generation of Aireloom products. The Kluft company offers two brands: Aireloom and Kluft, each with its own website. Both are luxury brands. The most expensive mattress is over $33,000, but there are others costing a tenth as much.

In 2011, E. S. Kluft & Company bought a manufacturing plant and distribution facility in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, from Park Place Corporation (formerly Orders Mattress Company) for making and servicing customers in the eastern states.

Aireloom – The Aireloom website describes what it calls The Aireloom Difference:

THE AIRELOOM DIFFERENCE - The Aireloom mattress is the best because of:
1. THE UNIQUE DESIGN PROCESS
2. THE FINEST RAW MATERIALS
3. EXPERIENCED ARTISANS AND CRAFTSMEN
4. AIRELOOM 40 YEAR HISTORY
5. ATTENTION TO DETAIL
6. PATENTED, SUPERIOR DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
7. A BETTER WAY TO BUILD A MATTRESS

The Aireloom site goes on further to describe the Design Process and Attention to Detail as well as the choice of materials used. Then they say, "The Aireloom mattress is handmade - using E. S. Kluft’s PATENTED designs. Which means Aireloom is the last true handmade luxury mattress in America."

The eight collections under the Aireloom brand are Synchronized Support, Natural Luxe Top, Streamline Luxury, Hybrid Cotton, Hybrid Bamboo, Hand Crafted, Luxury Latex, and Halstead. Five of these are innerspring mattresses, two are hybrids, and one has a latex support core.

Kluft – The Kluft website describes what it calls The Kluft Difference, which is essentially the same as "The Aireloom Difference." The Kluft brand collections are Beyond Luxury, Signature Series, Royal Standard - Original, Royal Standard - Lux Top, Royal Sovereign, Versailles, and Luxury Latex. All except Luxury Latex are innerspring mattresses. Like the Aireloom beds, Kluft mattresses are hand crafted.

A few of the retailers of Aireloom and Kluft mattresses are Bloomingdale's, Sit 'n' Sleep, Art Van Furniture, Gardner's, Mancini's Sleep World, Beds Unlimited, and Long's Bedding & Interiors. Several models are co-designed for specific retailers, such as Bloomindale's and Long's. Warranties on Kluft and Aireloom mattresses are from 10 to 20 years.

2015 Update

In 2013 ViSpring, a British luxury mattress manufacturer, entered into a partnership with E.S Kluft to make and market ViSpring mattresses in North America.  ViSpring acquired 51% ownership in Kluft.

In 2015 Kluft and ViSpring were bought by Flex Group, based in Spain.
