| NxG stands for Next Generation, and with a name like that you would expect modern features. The Simmons Beautyrest line presents the NxG 100 firm with an eye towards providing a firm mattress with Next Generation materials, which they have done with the use of memory foam, but they seem to have missed the point somewhat. Simmons has always been a reputable manufacturer, and even the best have had a few slips. The NxG 100 firm mattress uses about 1 inch of memory foam on the top layer of the bed, followed by 1.5 inches of plush foam. This sits atop the 9 inch Super Pocketed Coil base with a 3 inch Encased Edge support perimeter. As an opinion, anything under 2 inches of memory foam is not a total waste, but not extremely beneficial. The overall concern with this mattress is not the composition, as this seems like a good formula, but rather with the price. In a similar price range, you could look into a full latex or memory foam mattress. When you factor the foundation, which Simmons recommends their Triton foundation model, the cost of this sleep system could easily exceed $2000. The NxG 100 line from Simmons Beautyrest is no doubt a firm mattress using Next Generation materials, but if this line interests you then you may want to consider a NxG 250 firm, or other models all-together. Although the product itsself is wonderful, the price range (typical prices, including foundation) is a bit high for this design. |
