| Simmons is one of the industry leaders in bed manufacturing in the United States. It’s no surprise that Simmons has a line of mattresses and beds dedicated to kids. The Beginnings beds, available in firm and plush, are one of two kids sleep lines from Simmons. The other, the Slumbertime series, is a less expensive option. All of the Beginnings mattresses are available in typical kids sizes: full and twin, while some are available in twin xl (5 inches longer than standard twin). All of the Beginnings mattresses from Simmons Kids feature the Super Pocketed Coil innerspring design and a special Bloc Foam base for those pocketed coils. The firmer variants of the Simmons Kids Beginnings mattresses use a plush and firm foam in the quilted layer to provide firm comfort layers, then an inch of convoluted foam for added comfort, and finally the Super Pocketed Coils for support. You may find a pillowtop option in a firm mattress. The coil count for a full size mattress rivals some queen mattresses. The full Beginnings mattress has 638 coils and is 7 inches narrower and 5 inches shorter than a queen. The twin Beginnings firm mattress from Simmons Kids should be found starting around $550.00 for the set, including the Triton foundation. This is a little pricey for a bed which may only see a few years of use, but keep in mind that kids are far harder on their beds than a typical adult. Considering that the Beginnings mattresses use 13.25 gauge springs with 9 gauge border rods, we would consider this a sturdy bed. The Beginnings line from Simmons Kids appears to be ready to handle lots of makeshift tents and should also withstand a few sleepovers too. |
