Equinox is one of the new adjustable bed models from Customatic Adjustable Bedz featured in news stories. As far as I know, Customatic is the first (or one of the first) manufacturers to make an adjustable base with a lounge position, where the foot of the bed is lowered while the head is elevated, like the configuration of a lounge chair. Now, with Equinox, this feature is available in a deck-on-deck design.
Deck-on-deck means the adjustable deck is mounted on a fixed rectangular frame, the "deck" of the bed. This enables an adjustable bed to stand alone while looking like a traditional bed frame with an adjustable bed installed. Since the frame of a deck-on-deck adjustable bed is closed at the foot, this poses a problem for the lounge position, since the foot of the adjustable deck would dip below the fixed deck. Customatic solves this by tilting the foot of the frame with the foot down (see the photo).
According to Customatic, "The EQUINOX is designed to offer function & style to your bedroom decor." The head and foot can be adjusted separately. The wireless remote also has pre-programmed the most popular positions. These positions can then be adjusted for better comfort. Customatic calls this "customization and personalization." Although not specifically stated, this seems to indicate that some positions can be saved to memory on the remote. The company does claim that this model has "the widest range of position adjustments."
Among the several features of the Equinox Adjustable Bed are Zero Gravity, Gravity Release safety lowering, and Wall-Glide. The Zero Gravity position places the feet at the same elevation as the heart for better blood circulation in the legs, less strain on the heart, and more relaxation, with the goal of better health and quality sleep.
Gravity Release lets the weight of the bed lower it to the Flat position. First, there is not the risk associated with a powered descent. This also means that no power is needed to lower the bed in case of a power outage.
Wall Glide moves the adjustable deck toward the head of the bed while the head is being elevated. Adapted from recliners, this feature keeps the head next to the user's nightstand or bedside table.
Adjustable Bed in Lounge Position
Back to the full lounge position, for many people this relieves pressure on the spine. It also makes it easier for some to get into and out of bed. This would be especially so in a narrow space with little room on the side of the bed (such as a two-person bed placed next to a wall). According to Customatic, this signature feature makes this adjustable bed both fashionable and functional.
The Equinox also has a dual massage, labeled by Customatic as "advanced." A built-in massage helps to relax and smooth sore muscles.
Customatic has not yet posted the warranty period for the Equinox Adjustable Bed on its website, but following the example of other models it could be for 20 years with the first 10 non-prorated.
