Serta Motion Essentials Adjustable Foundation

The Serta Motion Essentials Adjustable Foundation is designed for the Serta Perfect Sleeper line of innerspring mattresses. According to Serta, "The Serta Motion Essentials Adjustable Foundation allows you to adjust the head and foot of your mattress, so you can find the level of comfort and support that’s just right for you." The features of the Motion Essentials include simple wired remote, Smooth Power™ Lifting System, high lifting capacity, zero clearance design, built-in emergency batteries, zero standby power, accessory legs, and a mattress retaining bar.

The wired remote for the Serta Motion Essentials Adjustable Foundation is simple, only four buttons. With it the user can raise and lower the head and/or the foot of the bed. This remote controls the Smooth Power™ Lifting System, motors for the head and the foot of the bed which increase the power smoothly, moving the user comfortably from one position to the next. Smooth as these motors are, they are high capacity, being able to lift up to 650 lbs. per base.

While plugged in, the Serta Motion Essentials Adjustable Foundation is in standby mode, which consumes half a Watt or less. If there is a power outage, the 9-volt backup batteries will restore the mattress smoothly to its flat position.

There is no problem fitting the Motion Essentials Adjustable Foundation by Serta into an existing bed frame or sleigh bed. It has Zero Clearance design. The foundation's dimensions allow it to fit within the frame in the flat position. While being raised and lowered, the Motion Essentials will not bump the frame - it has enough clearance.

The Serta Motion Essentials Adjustable Foundation can be used sitting on the floor, but if the user desires to have it higher, legs are available as well as 3" leg extensions. The legs come in 2", 7" or 9", and can be obtained with casters. Brackets are also available for attaching a headboard.

There are a number of retailers carrying Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses who also carry the Serta Motion Essentials Adjustable Foundation.

The legs that come with the adjustable frame are way too tall. My bed towers over my regular height bedside table. You are required to purchase shorter legs which is ridiculous. I cannot even get into the bed without a steps stool. I am 5'5" and that is tall enough to get into any bed in my home with ease except for the Serta adjustable. NOT a happy sleeper.

You can get a wireless base for around $950 and up, but the one I tried had a delayed response and came with a very noisy massage feature, the more expensive ones $1200 and up are very responsive but I am not willing to pay that much more. All the wireless bases that I looked at included a "massage" feature that I was not interested in.

Adjustable Bed Durability:

So far, it seems very durable. However, since I found out the 20yr warranty only covers parts and labor the first year and only parts the remainder of the warranty period, I purchased a 10yr parts and labor warranty for $99.

Adjustable Bed Features and Benefits as Advertised:

The bed frame sits much higher than the standard metal frame that his old mattress was on. This makes it essential that the bed be lowered in the flat position for entry and exit. Unless you intend to use a step stool to get in and out of the bed.

Quality:

This is our first experience with an Adjustable base and find it to our satisfaction.

I tried to research the motion iv but there isn't much specifics on YouTube or the Serta website. We've tried others in store but never found this model until we went online. The "motion" part is weak. I sleep on the left side of the bed and even on the highest setting i can't really feel it on my left side. All the bases we tried have the leg motion but not this model which had we known we would have never bought. We've had it for about a month and I hate it. It is more annoying than relaxing. I am a disabled vet and I wanted a motion bed for my restless leg, arms, arthritis and various joint problems I have because they keep me up all night. The other models we did try would have been great especially for my legs. Unfortunately, due to the lack of information I found my husband wanted this model because it was in the $5000 (including mattress) range we were looking to spend. So 5K later, I'm still up at night and annoyed by the motion because it is just a weak vibration that I only feel on my right side. Overall the motion iv....don't waste your money. very disappointed.
