The Verlo Mattress Factory Stores began in 1958 as Wheeling Furniture Company in Wheeling, Illinois. In 1968, the founders, Guy Day and Dale Williams, began selling individually personalized mattresses which were crafted by hand. When they moved to Wisconsin and incorporated the business, they changed the name to "Verlo" after their wives, Verna and Lois.

As the business grew, the owners began to franchise locations to meet the demand for personalized mattresses. Current Verlo Mattress Factory Stores are locally owned and operated as franchises.

Verlo Mattress Factory manufactures and sells its products through 41 franchised factory stores in 7 states. They produce seven mattress collections, varying in type: air bed, innerspring, gel foam, talalay latex foam, and memory foam. Verlo's mattress sets are:
