Aireloom Rip Van Winkle Collection

Rip Van Winkle had been a model series in the Hand-Crafted Collection by Aireloom Bedding Company, a major division of E.S Kluft. Now in 2015, it is a collection of its own. However, it has only three models: Rip Van Winkle Plush, Rip Van Winkle Medium Firm and Rip Van Winkle Firm.

All three Rip Van Winkle innerspring mattresses share the same foundation and the same support system. Where they differ is in the quilting and in the comfort layers.

Rip Van Winkle mattresses have a stretch knit cover fabric which is a 25/75 blend of Tencel and polyester. Tencel is a fiber with a cross-section engineered to draw moisture away from the sleeping surface for dryness and coolness. Polyester adds smoothness and makes the fabric more durable.

This cover fabric is quilted to a blend of silk and wool fibers. As compressed batting, this serves as a fire barrier without sacrificing the temperature neutral and cushioning qualities of the wool.

To this quilting is added firm high density foam, with slight variations of firmness and thickness among the models. The Medium Firm and Firm mattresses add Aireloom's PillowFlex foam. Rip Van Winkle Firm goes on to add stretch tricot of 100% cotton.

The inner-tufted comfort layers of all Rip Van Winkle mattresses have 54 hand-tied tufts, 42 lbs. of cotton felt, and a hand-stitched border. Around the perimeter is edge support of high density foam. This foam wall also aids the tufting in keeping the layers aligned. Also among the comfort layers are layers of ventilated Talalay latex. The firmness of the latex varies according to the firmness of the model. Comfort layers in the two firmer Rip Van Winkle models have high density support foam. The comfort section of all mattresses has a base layer of an extra-firm high-density foam called Energex™.

Aireloom's Rip Van Winkle mattresses rely on innerspring units with offset coils. These coils are more conforming than Bonnell coils, and even more conforming than continuous coils. The 13-ga. steel wire in these springs is double-tempered, and they have 6 turns each.

The foundations for Rip Van Winkle mattresses are box springs with 8-way hand-tied modular coils. These models are also compatible with adjustable beds. Rip Van Winkle mattresses are carried by several Aireloom dealers. They are covered by a 25/15 prorated warranty.
