The new Comforpedic iQ introduced by Simmons Beautyrest at the January 2014 Las Vegas Market is scheduled to be available in April 2014. According to press releases, the one of the first dealers is online retailer Mattress Factory. The iQ combines three key technologies in this "self adjusting" Comforpedic memory foam mattress. These are Micro Diamond™ Infused AirCool® Memory Foam, Smart Response™ foam chambers, and the spun rayon jersey knit cover. The self-adjustment is done without pumps or electronics.

Smart Response™ is a system Simmons says has been used for over a decade in hospitals. It uses foam chambers to adjust the balance of support in response to the weight and contours of the body. According to Beautyrest, it "automatically calibrates to your body’s weight and position on the mattress." These are polyurethane chambers filled with very porous foam. Intake and outflow one-way air valves (check valves) allow the chambers to release air when more pressure is applied or increased, and let it in when pressure is reduced. With only one outflow check valve and two intake, the chambers reinflate more quickly than they deflate.

The number and arrangement of chambers (per side) is set, the chamber size depends on the size of the mattress. The arrangement is engineered for optimal support to the torso. Customers have not yet had a chance to test this for themselves, but Temple University Medical School tested it against other mattresses with students. The Comforpedic iQ has better results than the students' current mattresses.

Micro Diamond™ Infused AirCool® Memory Foam is Beautyrest's AirCool ventilated memory foam which is infused with diamond dust. The diamond dust gives the Micro Diamond™ AirCool a high heat conduction index. Simmons says that the iQ does not have phase change materials, because the heat conductivity of the Micro Diamond™ Memory Foam makes this unnecessary.

The cover of the Beautyrest Comforpedic iQ is spun rayon jersey knit. Spun rayon is moisture wicking to keep the sleeping surface dry. Being stretch knit lets it conform to the sleeper along with the memory foam and the foam-filled air chambers. According to Simmons, the foam in the air chambes is treated to be anti-fungal. And the constant flow of air in and out of the chambers keeps it fresh.

Besides the Micro Diamond™ Infused AirCool® Memory Foam, the comfort layers of the Comforpedic iQ use Ultra Cool™ Memory Foam, AirCool® Memory Foam with Micro GelTouch®, and Comfort Response Latex™, specialty foams made for or by Comforpedic. Which materials are used appears to depend on the model.

The Beautyrest Comforpedic iQ is recommended by Dr. Andrew Weil‎. The founder and director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine (ACIM) at the University of Arizona, he writes, teaches on and promotes holistic health. "Integration" refers to using both traditional Western medicine and alternative methods. This is the only mattress line he has endorsed, and all the royalties go to ACIM.
