PacBamboo GEL Memory Foam

The 13" high PacBamboo GEL Memory Foam Mattress is distinguished from other BedInABox.com (BIAB) memory foam mattresses by its 2" quilted pillow-top cover with natural bamboo fibers. According to BedInABox, "The fabric used to make the PacBamboo™ mattress cover is produced utilizing natural, additive-free bamboo fiber extracted directly from bamboo culms (culms are the same as stems)."

Bamboo is a renewable resource (as anyone who has tried to get rid of unwanted bamboo knows). We generally know bamboo stems as a type of wood. But the fibers in bamboo stems are actually very fine and soft when extracted from the wood. Among the properties of these fibers, they are anti-bacterial and quasi-elastic. Bamboo fabric is absorbent, moisture-wicking and breathable. It is also a deodorant. The bamboo fabric is quilted with polyester microfiber and "special quilting foam" to produce a 2" thick pillow top. Altogether, the breathability of this pillow top keeps the sleepers cool, even with memory foam just two inches below.

This bamboo quilted pillowtop cover of the PacBamboo GEL Memory Foam Mattress rests on a 3" comfort layer of BIAB CoolRest Gel™ Memory Foam. The principal advantage of memory foam is cushioning conformability. Visco-eastic memory foam responds to the heat and weight of the sleeper's body and conforms to the body's contours, providing even support for every part of the body. This eliminates pressure points, where a few points–such as shoulders, hips and knees–take most of the pressure of the body's weight, then get sore. After the weight is removed, the "memory" foam returns to its original shape. Another benefit of memory foam is its suppression of motion transfer. This way, when one sleeper moves, the partner is not disturbed.

Memory foam tends to build up heat from the sleepers. Then it gets too hot for comfortable sleep. There are two ways that BedInABox counters this in the PacBamboo GEL Memory Foam Mattress. The first is the open-cell structure of their CoolRest Gel™ Memory Foam. It allows air flow through the foam to ventilate and cool the layer. The next is the infusion of gel into the foam. Gel absorbs excess heat, carries it away and lets it dissipate.


At the bottom of the PacBamboo GEL Memory Foam Mattress, an 8" core of highly resilient (HR) support foam provides the needed support for the entire mattress, including edge support. This ensures full support for the users. It also supports the CoolRest Gel™ Memory Foam layer, keeping it from sagging. The BIAB support foam has a support rating of 24/32 (2.4 density/32 IFD). This both gives orthopedic support, promoting proper spinal alignment, and prolongs the life of the memory foam. BedInABox says that it gives the feel of a traditional innerspring mattress, but without the springs.

Like all BedInABox models, the PacBamboo GEL Memory Foam is extensively lab tested for performance and quality. It is certified by both CertiPur-S and Hohenstein. All foam is made in the USA. The PacBamboo carries a 20-year warranty. The recommended foundation is the BIAB-made 8" American Hardwood Foundation, although it can be used with platform beds and adjustable bases.

Big Dawg™ Truck Mattress - BedInABox also makes mattresses for the sleepers in over-the-road semi trucks. Among these is the Big Dawg™ Truck Mattress. It is made like the PacBamboo GEL Memory Foam Mattress, except that it is three inches lower (the HR core is 5") and the dimensions fit semi sleepers.
