BedInABox PacBed Original GEL
The PacBed Original GEL from BedInABox (BIAB) is known by many as the affordable memory foam bed. Its price is considerably less than comparable models from Tempurpedic and other major-name manufacturers. In spite of the low price, the PacBed Original Gel has a good reputation from coast-to-coast. BedInA Box usually sells and ships its mattresses directly to customers, but now they are carried by a handful of select retailers.

The PacBed Original GEL consists of two layers. In the 9" version, the support core is 6" and the comfort core 3". The support core is 8" in the 11" version.

The 3" comfort core of the PacBed Original GEL is BIAB's CoolRest gel-infused memory foam. Memory foam conforms itself to the user's body, and gel cooperates in this. Gel helps memory foam in rebounding when pressure is lifted. It makes the memory foam more supportive, which means it is less likely to bottom out.

Gel is better know for its cooling properties. The gel is a heat sink. It absorbs body heat at the surface of the mattress. It then conducts this heat away from the surface to where it dissipates.

The memory foam is processed with an open-cell structure, which promotes airflow through the mattress. This not only cools the mattress, the ventilation keeps the mattress fresh. This structure also makes the foam more resilient.

The support foam in the BedInABox PacBed Original GEL is 6" high in the 9" version and 8" in the 11" version. It is made from specially formulated support foam, a polyurethane in which plant-oil based polyols reduce the amount of petroleum derived oils. This support foam, as well as the memory foam, is processed in a way that reduces toxic outgassing to essentially zero.

BedInABox claims that their support foam is long-lasting, a claim which they say is supported by how long customers use these mattresses.

The cover of the PacBed Original GEL by BedInABox is a breathable soft knit. It was created especially to be used on memory foam.

All of the BedInABox foams are made in a BASF plant in North Carolina, where memory foam has been made since the 1960's. It is then finished, and the mattresses assembled in the BedInABox plant in Tennessee. From there the mattresses are shipped to the customerts.

With a BedInABox mattress, there is a 120-day "Zero-Risk Sleep Guarantee." These mattresses also carry a 20-year warranty. In offering this trial period and warranty, the company cites its rating and record with the Better Business Bureau: no complaints in the last four years.

BedInABox produces an American hardwood foundation especially designed for use with memory foam mattresses. It is shiped as a kit and can be easily set up by the customer.
