Bespoke Collection
The newest
innerspring mattresses released by
Marshall Mattress Company of Toronto, Ontario in Canada are in the
Bespoke Collection. Six models are on the general market, and a series of three are exclusive to the
Hudson Bay Company. As with all Marshall
mattresses, these rely on
pocket coils (invented by James Marshall, the founder of the company) for support.
The six generally available models are
Bespoke Hampton,
Bespoke Highgrove,
Bespoke Reserve,
Bespoke Sandringham,
Bespoke Savile Row, and
Bespoke Stratford, all custom made in Canada. They range from 14½ to 11 inches in height: Two are 14½", one is 13½", one 11½", and two 11".
The description of each of the models in the
Bespoke Collection says that it offers "full body support." This is the principal feature of the pocket coils. Each
Bespoke model has 1026 of these individually wrapped
springs in a Queen sized mattress. The pockets in the
Bespoke Collection are made of
cotton. According to other descriptions by
Marshall Mattress, they are arranged in a honeycomb pattern for the greatest density possible for the coils used.
"Full body support" is achieved by the independent response of each coil. When some coils are pressed low by larger parts of the body, the others still support the smaller parts. This leaves no part of the body without support. The effect of this is no excess pressure on any part of the body, such as hips and shoulders. It also helps keep the spine in position.
The upholstery of the
Bespoke mattresses is several fiber layers. The materials are cotton and New Zealand wool: pure
wool, pure felted cotton, and a wool-cotton blend. The number and thickness of these layers determines the overall height and final firmness level.
The
cover and borders of the
Bespoke Collection mattresses are made of striped damask from Belgium. These are tailored by hand.
According to
Marshall, the entire mattress is hand-tufted. A measured pattern is used, calculated to stabilize the entire mattress: the coil unit (perimeter support) and the sleeping surface (edge support).
Marshall Mattress does not use any
foam, not even foam encasement.
At this time, the only sizes available are Queen and King. The foundation is a 9-inch "sprung divan."
Bespoke Collection mattresses are or will be available through several retailers across Canada. At least one retailer has a manager for sales in the United States. All models in this collection come with
Marshall Mattress Company's 15-year warranty.
