Lily

At 10" high, Lily is the lowest of the in-store models of mattresses made by South Bay International and sold under the Blissful Nights brand. Blissful Nights models were created to address the requests of retailers for mattresses needed by their customers.

The Lily is a memory foam mattress with a simple three-layer construction: memory foam, South Bay's Air Comfort Foam, and the foam support core. To this South Bay adds foam encasement edge support. Most memory foam mattresses made by other manufacturers just depend on the support core.

The top layer of the Blissful Nights Lily is 3" of 3½-lb. memory foam. Visco memory foam is there to prevent pressure sores and support the lower spine. It does this by conforming to the body's contours. Since it is sensitive to heat, it specifically responds to the sleeper.

The next layer down is 2" of Air Comfort Foam. This foam has been engineered to let air circulate through the middle of the mattresses. The weakness of memory foam is its tendency to let heat build up. If a mattress gets too warm, it interferes with the user experiencing a restful night of quality sleep.

The base layer is the support core of extra firm polyurethane foam. This 5" layer supports the whole mattress. This is half the height of the mattress. With some give, it keeps the memory foam from bottoming out. This also extends the life of the memory foam.

The 3" x 3" Wedge Edge foam encasement serves two purposes. By hemming in the memory foam, the support of this layer is focused on the sleepers. But primarily the Wedge is edge support for the sleeping surface. This support is closer to the surface than the support core, so it is more effective.

The Easy Zip Off cover's top panel is removable and washable. The nature of the fire resistance is not named, but South Bay states that the Lily is CertiPur-US certified as having "no prohibited phthalates." My guess is that they use a non-chemical method, such as silica-infused rayon.

Compatible foundations for the Lily include platform beds, solid top box-framed bases, and adjustable beds, such as the Blissful Nights Adjustable Base (the same as the Motion Trend by Sleep Science).

The warranty period for Lily is not specified on the Blissful Nights page, but if it is the same as for the online sale models, it would be for 20 years.
