Avena Foam, introduced by Carpenter Co. in 2010, is used in pillows and mattress toppers. A few mattress manufacturers, such as Leesa, are also using it. Carpenter also uses it in a mattress of its own, the Avena Foam RV Mattress sold by Camping World.
The Avena Foam RV Mattress is 10" high. It consists of a 7" high support core and a 3" comfort layer in an easy-care cover.
The 7" base foam is high density polyurethane foam. It's role is basic support for the mattress and the sleeper.
The 3" comfort layer of the Avena Foam RV Mattress is a newer foam developed and patented by Carpenter Co. The material in this foam was engineered for resiliency. Even though it is a type of polyurethane, its support and cushioning characteristics are like latex. It relieves pressure and isolates motion. Some bloggers even call Avena better than latex. Like Talalay latex, it is perforated vertically for ventilation to keep the mattress cool.
The knitted cover fabric on the Avena Foam RV Mattress is microfiber rayon. Microfiber wicks moisture away from the sleeping surface. Evaporation of this moisture cools the top. Being knitted makes the cover more conforming, working together with the Avena Foam.
Carpenter uses its own ProTech flame resistant to meet federal flammability standards. The fiber balls up rather than igniting in a fire. Though the substance in it is not named, it is likely rayon infused with silica.
This mattress is currently available in two sizes, Short Queen and King. The foundation can be a platform bed or slatted base. Though not stated, it should be compatible with an adjustable bed. The warranty is for 10 years.
