Glideaway's Sleepharmony CG Series Gel Memory Foam Mattresses feature gel-infused memory foam. This collection of memory foam mattresses has three newer and three older models. The older models, known as Cool Response, are the 8" CG2000, 10" CG4000 and 12" CG6000. At least one retailer has three even older, discontinued models (CG7, CG9 and CG11) which are being sold on clearance.
The newer models are the 9″ Juno, 11″ Polaris, and 13.25″ Orion. The Polaris and Orion are hybrid mattresses, a combination of memory foam mattress and innerspring mattress, pairing the foam support with pocket coils.
According to Glideaway, the CG Series Memory Foam Mattresses "Create an optimum sleeping environment and receive the best rest possible with a sleep product that features all 5 recommended “good sleep” components." The components are Personal Comfort Fulfillment, Proper Support, Balanced Pressure Relief, Temperature Control, and Antibacterial & Allergen Control.
The latest models (Juno, Polaris and Orion) use what Glideaway calls, "The newest, premium technology in cool gel sleep products." This is a layer of gel fused to the top of the top memory foam layer. Named TruGel™, the role of this gel overlay is to absorb heat from both the sleeper and the room. Obviously there is a limit to how much heat the gel can absorb, but the gel can release heat when the bed is not being used.
The TruGel is bonded to Glideaway's Advantage Plus Memory Foam in the Juno and the Polaris. This memory foam is aerated for ventilation to cool and freshen. Somewhere in this is activated charcoal to filter out harmful substances. This combined layer is 2" high.
In the Orion, TruGel is bonded with charcoal and Glideaway's EliteCore Memory Foam. EliteCore is higher density than the Advantage Plus, but the extra inch in the combined height of 3" lets it be less firm overall.
Beneath the TruGel+Charcoal+Advantage Plus Memory Foam, the Juno has a 3" layer of Glideaway's Gentle Support Transition Foam, an intermediate between the firm base foam in the support core and the conforming/contouring memory foam.
The 4" support core (Body Support Base) in Juno is intended to be a "shock absorber" under the more giving comfort foam, providing basic support for the whole body, including the spine.
Polaris has 2" of Gentle Support Transition Foam, and Orion has 2" of SuperSoft Gentle Support Transition Foam.
Polaris and Orion have what Glideaway calls its Synergy Support System. This involves coils and two foams. The individually wrapped heat-tempered pocket coils are zoned for more support under the middle body and around the edges. They are precompressed by 2 inches. Then the pre-compressed coils are encased with CG•Pure Support foam. This foam encasement protects the pocket coils from the sides, keeping them in place and upright.
Under the encased pocket coil innerspring is a support core, the Body Support Base, of firm foam, to protect the pocket coils from beneath and adding its support to the mattress.
Cooling in the CG Series mattresses begins at the top. The cover fabric has the Feran Ice Treatment to absorb moisture and convey it to the surface. The evaporation of this moisture cools the top of the mattress while keeping it dry.
The three older models have a 1" top layer of 3-lb. Cool Gel CG•Support Memory Foam. This is memory foam infused with micro-beads of gel, while liquid gel was swirled into the memory foam in the discontinued models. Gel makes the memory foam more supportive while also cooling it by conducting the heat away.
The next layer in this older series is 4-lb. memory foam. This denser foam is more supportive, making it intermediate between the gel memory foam in the top layer and the extra firm base foam in the support core
A 2" high border of high density support foam supplies edge support for the mattress. In the CG2000 this is around the two memory foam comfort layers. In the CG4000 and CG6000 it is around a 2" high layer of Sculpted Comfort Foam.
The sculpting of thie Sculpted Comfort Foam allows more air to circulate deep in the mattress. It also makes the foam more responsive then its density would otherwise permit.
The support cores of the CG•Support mattresses consist of high density support base foam, which is probably polyurethane. Like all foams uses by Glideaway, is is certified by CertiPUR-US® as free from harmful substances.
Mattresses like the CG Series Cool Gel Memory Foam Mattresses need firm flat support, like that of a platform bed. Glideaway makes steel KD foundations which need no frames. They make steel frames which can be used with wood-framed foundations (often called "box springs" though they are not). Glideaway also sells adjustable beds for use with their mattresses.
Mattresses in the CG Series are covered by Glideaway with a 10-year limited warranty.
