Comforpedic Elite Comfort
Elite Comfort is a
Beautyrest Comforpedic model made by
Simmons.
ComforPedic is the
Beautyrest line of memory foam mattresses.
Simmons Beautyrest claims that their memory foam is cooler and more supportive than older versions. True enough, the technology now used in memory foam does make it more supportive and cooler than before, and this is true for most manufacturers. Where
Beautyrest currently seems to have an edge is in temperature control. Its
AirCool memory foam not only uses open-cell design and ventilation for cooling, it also uses
TruTemp, a gel containing PCMs (phase change materials). PCMs change their physical state (phase) in response to changes in temperature, absorbing heat when it's too warm and releasing heat when it's too cool.
Elite Comfort, called
Renewed Spirit by some retailers, is a 13½" model. The user first encounters the
Evenloft Surface at the top. This is a non-quilted smoothly knit fabric which is free to stretch to fit the sleeper's body. It is also breathable to help with cooling.
Just below the cover is a 2" layer of
Beautyrest's
Advanced AirCool memory foam. Its structure promotes air flow, and micro-beads of
GelTouch are infused to draw heat away from the sleeping surface. To this is added
TruTemp, described above.
Below the top layer is a 3" layer of
Luxury AirCool memory foam, a ventilated material without the gels. Besides contributing to the conforming support of memory foam, its function is to allow air to circulate through the mattress, taking heat out as it goes.
The next layer down is the 2"
Multi-Action Support Layer. This is not a solid foam block, but rows of foam cushions shaped to respond to the sleeper's weight and shape in a manner similar to the widely-used pocket coils. Not only rows, this is several layers.
ComforPedic Elite Comfort features the
Beautyrest AirCool Design, which is engineered for air flow through the mattress as a whole. The foam encasement edge support is part of this design. The ½" foam rails are perforated to allow air to escape from the center of the mattress. The border cover is
AirCool Mesh.
The primary support for the
Elite Comfort is the 6½"
AirCool Transflexion Core. This high density foam undergirds all other layers, keeping them from sagging or bottoming out. This is necessary for orthopedic spinal support. As in other
ComforPedic foams, the
Transflexion is also ventilated for air flow.
The
Comforpedic Elite Comfort model can be purchased with the
Comforpedic Triton Foundation designed for memory foam beds. The
Elite Comfort is also compatible with
Simmons's
NuFlex adjustable base. The
Elite Comfort comes with a 25-year warranty and is available through several retailers, both in stores and online, some of which use the model name
Renewed Spirit.
