RV Mattress

The RV Mattress is a model within the Specialty Comfort Series by ComfortAire. The other member of this collection is the Waterbed Replacement. RV Mattress is an airbed based on an older ComfortAire model, oc300. This mattress is 9" high with a zippered top.

RV mattresses in general are designed for use in settings other than at home or in a hotel. The bed can be in a motor home or trailer, a boat, the sleeper of a truck, or another portable venue. It is available in eight sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, Queen Short, Eastern King, Short Eastern King, and California King. Though not explicitly stated, this implies that the mattress can be ordered in non-standard sizes.

The principal features of the RV Mattress are the original air technology, interchangeable components, dual adjustability (individual comfort), and the Q10™ Wireless ACS control system.

ComfortAire developed adjustable air support technology and introduced it in 1981. This brought air mattresses from the campsite into the home bedroom. Over the years, improvements have beeen made, and now several mattress manufacturers have one or a few adjustable air beds.

Mattresses made by ComfortAire, including the RV Mattress, have modular construction. This means that separate parts can be replaced (for repairs or upgrades). Thus the whole mattress does always have to be replaced if there is a failure. This prolongs the life of the mattresses, enables it to be brought up-to-date, and lowers the cost of repairs.

With a dual chamber mattress for two sleepers, each side can be adjusted separately. If one sleeper wants more support in the middle, and the other wants less, both needs can be satisfied.

The Q10™ Wireless ACS is billed as "Comfortaire’s first generation wireless air control system." Before this, remote controls were wired to the control units on the bed. The digital control has about 100 settings (combining the pressure levels of three air chambers) to personalize one's support level.

1. The cover fabric of the RV Mattress is knit to allow it to adjust to the contouring of the eggcrate foam beneath. The top of this cover is zippered to let components be inspected and seviced.

2. Under the cover is a 2" high topper of convoluted foam (probably polyurethane). The convolutions on the surface of this foam allow it to conform to the sleeper's body contours for pressure relief.

3. Support in the ComfortAire RV Mattress relies on air chambers. These are 6" high, made of 24-gauge cotton-latex.

4. Around the air chambers is a 6" high foam rail to provide perimeter support. This also supplies edge support to the sleeping surface.

Not labled in the description of the RV Mattress is the base pad. This about an inch thick. Its role is to protect the air chambers on the bottom.

The foams in ComfortAire mattresses have been certified by laboratories as having low emissions and not having any of several harmful substances.

If a customer cannot find a nearby retailer, she or he can buy the RV Mattress directly from ComfortAire. It comes with a 2/25 limited warranty.
