The Contemporary Series by Symbol Mattress has four models (or sub-series) of latex mattresses: Windsor Pillow Top, Kensington, Conover Summit Top, and Westminster. Before the 2015 realignment of Symbol's lineup, these were in the Contour Classic Collection.
Windsor Pillow Top * Kensington * Conover Summit Top * Westminster
The four Contemporary Series latex models are all-foam mattresses. The support core in each model is a solid block of firm high density polyurethane foam. And each model has latex comfort layer(s). Two of the models have pillow tops; the other two are tight top mattresses.
Symbol does not list heights of their mattresses or their layers online. They sell only through retailers, so that is where dimensions are to be found.
The Windsor Pillow Top and the Kensington are the two tallest Contemporary Series latex mattresses, about 13¾" high. They are also the most expensive. The Conover Summit Top is about 12½" high, and at 11½" Westminster is the lowest.
Comfort levels likewise vary among latex mattresses in the Symbol Mattress Contemporary Series, with Windsor PT being the plushest and Westminster the firmest.
Each of these "models" is really a series within the series, with more than one comfort level available. Heights may also vary, with some models within each component series having or not having a pillow top or euro top. Symbol Mattress often shows one representative of a minor series. They even indicate this within their descriptions: "An all foam smooth top mattress with varying combinations of latex and polyurethane."
The covers of the Contemporary Series latex mattresses are tufted smooth tops. The type of fire barrier is not named by Symbol, but an exemption from federal flammability standards is not claimed. In the absence of a claim of non-chemical flame retardants, we assume that material just inside the cover is treated with chemical retardants.
Latex in the comfort layers is naturally resilient. It bears the sleeper up instead of sinking in like memory foam. This goes for natural, synthetic and blended latex. Latex is also resistant to microbes, mold and dust mites. Since natural latex is washed after curing, it is claimed to be hypoallergenic. However, with natural latex, some residual rubber sap proteins may remain to trigger allergic reactions in the most sensitive persons.
Symbol does not supply foundations with their mattresses. The most suitable bases for these mattresses are platform beds, slatted wood-framed bases (if the slats are close enough together), and adjustable beds. Old style box springs are not suitable for foam mattresses.
The Symbol Mattress warranty on Contemporary Series latex mattresses is for 15 years non-prorated.
