Diamond Mattress CoolSpringGEL Collection
CoolSpringGEL by Diamond Mattress is a collection of innerspring mattresses with gel memory foam in the comfort layers. The collection has two series, Unity and Skyline, with three models each. Each model has a different height and firmness level, with the Skyline models being slightly softer than the corresponding Unity models.

The heart of the Diamond CoolSpringGEL mattresses is the 7 Series innerspring unit of nested individually wrapped coils, made by Diamond Mattress. With a coil count of 744, each coil responds independently to the pressure applied directly to it. While larger parts of the body press down more on the springs, there is still support for the rest of the body. This takes some of the pressure off the larger and heavier body areas, reducing pressure points and the accompanying discomfort and pain. Besides reducing presure points, the individually wrapped coils also minimize motion transfer and the partner sleep disturbance it causes.

The innerspring support core of Diamond Mattress CoolSpringGEL Collection mattresses is foam-encased. This holds the individual coils in place and also supports the edge of the mattress, making the entire sleeping surface suitable for use, whether sleeping or sitting. The central portion of the mattress gets more support, needed for the lumbar (lower back).

Diamond Mattress uses a high-density plant-based support foam they call Eco-Flex in the CoolSpringGEL Collection. (Current technology allows up to 20% plant-derived oils in polyurethane foam with an acceptable level of durability. Future development in materials technology may increase this portion, thereby reducing the amount of petroleum based oils.) Eco-Flex in the comfort layer enhances and smooths out the coil support so the user does not feel the individual coils. It is also used in a base layer to cushion and protect the bottom of the coil unit.

The banner feature of the CoolSpringGEL Collection by Diamond Mattress is the CoolGEL Memory Foam. This is memory foam which is infused with gel. Diamond does not say how the gel is infused, but other manufacturers embed microencapsulated gel, "solid" gel beads, or gel crystals, or stir or swirl in liquid gel. The role of gel is two-fold. First, gel is a heat sink, absorbing and carrying away body heat to cool the sleeping surface. Without gel, memory foam, even when ventilated, tends to build up heat until it becomes uncomfortable. Second, gel makes the memory foam more supportive while allowing it to still be conforming. The conformity of memory foam allows it to match the body contours of the users, providing both even support and cushioning.

Diamond Mattress claims control of the quality of their materials, since they process them at their plant. They offer a 20-year warranty on mattresses in the CoolSpringGEL Collection.

The recommended foundations for the CoolSpringGEL Collection are Diamond Mattress's own hardwood foundation (8" or 4") and adjustable beds (Pro-Motion or S-Cape adjustable bases by Leggett & Platt).
