The Ambrosia Series is part of the CoolTouchGEL Collection of specialty sleep mattresses by Diamond Mattress, Inc., a California bedding manufacturer. As is implied by the name of the collection, these mattresses feature gel memory foam. A signature feature is Diamond Mattress's Direct Contact design, where the cover fabric is all there is between the user and the gel memory foam.
There are two models in this series, Ambrosia Select, a luxury plush mattress 12.5" high, and Ambrosia Signature, 10.5" and medium plush. These two models share the same composition and order of components, differing only in the thicknesses of key layers.
The four-way stretch-knit cover of Cool TouchGEL Ambrosia mattresses is removable and washable. It is the only thing between the sleeper and the top layer of gel-infused memory foam. This, the Direct Contact design, is to ensure that the sleeper will fully experience the benefit of coolness provided by the gel.
The comfort layer of the CoolTouchGEL Ambrosia Select and Ambrosia Supreme is Diamond Mattress's CoolTouchGEL memory foam with gel bead support. While the memory foam is being processed, it is infused with beads of gel, which are to act as a heat sink. They draw heat away from the sleeping surface and conduct it to where it dissipates. This cools the sleeping surface. This memory foam itself has an open-cell structure, allowing air to circulate through it, further cooling the mattress. Without the gel and open-cells, memory foam tends to accumulate heat, becoming too warm for comfortable sleep. The foam is also vertically perforated to foster airflow through the interior of the mattress.
Memory foam, including gel memory foam, responds to heat and pressure, conforming to the body contours of the sleepers. This contours the support, making it even along the whole body, reducing or eliminating pressure points. This material is called "memory foam" because it returns to its original shape when pressure is removed.
Underlying the Ambrosia comfort layer is the support layer, made of Diamond Mattress high-density plant-based support grade polyurethane foam, to provide orthopedic support, which is important to spinal health.
The lowest layer of a CoolTouchGEL Ambrosia mattress is the base layer, made of the firmest foam, designed to support the entire mattress. This protects the layers above and keeps the sleepers from bottoming out. Together with the right foundation, it is intended to prolong the life of the mattress.
Diamond Mattress CoolTouchGEL Ambrosia mattresses are compatible with adjustable beds. They also work well with platforms and European-style wood slat foundations. Like all memory foam mattresses, they need full support.
According to the company, Diamond Mattress processes all of their materials. They say, "We know they are the best." For four generations, DM has backed a 25-year warranty on their mattresses.
