Spinal Comfort Collection

The Spinal Comfort Collection of innerspring mattresses is referred to by Diamond Mattress as "our most diverse collection." This is true for the innerspring units, comfort layers, covers, and mattress heights. This collection has five series: Royal Grove Series, Crescent Bay Series, Hampton Series, Surfside Series, and Bella Series. Each series is distinct in one or more of these areas.

Innerspring Units

In all series except Bella, the coils are called "Diamond-made." The support units in Bella Series mattresses are VertiCoil open offset alternating coil innersprings, developed by Leggett & Platt's Bedding Components division. These are more conforming than any other mattress springs except pocket coils. Offset coils are more durable than pocket coils, since each coil is kept in place by its neighbors.

All the other Spinal Comfort series have innersprings of individually wrapped pocket coils. The Royal Grove and Hampton series have a coil count of 774 in Queen size. The count in Crescent Bay and Surfside is 567. Diamond Mattress does not give the coil wire gauge nor say whether either of these coil arrays is nested, leaving the reason for the difference of coil count in question. Pocket coils, with their independent response, conform to body contours for even support. This takes pressure off large bony parts, such as hips and shoulders, and supports smaller areas such as the lower back.

All innerspring units in the Spinal Comfort Collection are foam encased for coil protection and edge support. Additionally, all these are described as Tri-Zoned, with additional lumbar support in the middle third of the mattress.

Comfort Layers

This is where most of the diversity in the Spinal Comfort Collection is found. In this regard, Bella Series mattresses are the simplest, with only high-density plant-based Eco-Flex foams. The models in this series are differentiated by the number and/or thicknesses of these layers.

To the Eco-Flex foam. the Surfside Series and Hampton Series add Eco-Memory Foam. This memory foam is vertically perforated for ventilation and cooling. Memory foam is used for its conformity and pressure relief. It tends to cradle the sleeper. Ideally, it would return to its original configuration some time after use.

Instead of memory foam, the Crescent Bay Series uses natural Talalay latex foam with multiple layers of Eco-Flex. Latex is much more resilient than the other foams. It does have some conformity, but with a definite springiness. It is also naturally resistant to mold and microbes.

The highest series, Royal Grove, has both latex and memory foam as well as the other foams. The heights of the mattresses is due to the foams stacked on top of the innerspring. While this may make the mattress more cushioning, it can also be a weakness. The general experience of innerspring mattresses with high foam is that it is the foam not the innerspring, which is more likely to collapse. Box springs are not recommended foundations for foam mattresses, so this is no surprise.

Covers

The cover material of Royal Grove mattresses is organic cotton. In the others it is simply described as a "4-Way Stretch Knit" material. For the Hampton, Surfside and Bella models, this is further described as "Soft."

Mattress Heights

The heights of mattresses varies within each series. Each model bears the name of its series and the style and/or firmness of the model (marked here by the number 1-10). The 15" Royal Grove Pillow Top is Luxury Plush (3), 14" Royal Grove Euro Top is Medium Plush (5), and the 13" Royal Grove Firm Tight Top is Firm (9). Among the four models in the Crescent Bay Series, the 14½" Pillow Top is Plush (2), 13½" Euro Pillow Top is Luxury Plush (3), 12½" Plush Tight Top is Plush (4), and the 12" Tight Top Firm is Firm (8). Hampton models are 14½" Pillow Top (3), 13½" Euro Top (6), and 12½" Firm Tight Top (9). The four Surfside models are the 14" Pillow Top (3), 13" Euro Pillow Top (4), 12" Plush Tight Top (5) and 12" Firm Tight Top (8). Finally, in the Bella Series, 14" Pillow Top (4), 13½" Euro Top (6) and 11" Firm Tight Top (9).

For all these mattresses, Diamond Mattress makes an upholstered hardwood foundation. All mattresses except those in the Bella Series are compatible with adjustable beds. Diamond Mattress sells two adjustable bases made by Ergomotion.

All mattresses in the Spinal Comfort Collection bear Diamond Mattress's 20-year limited warranty. They are available through several retailers, in stores and online.
