The Dormeo Classic Line produced by Dormeo North America, the U.S. branch of European bedding manufacturer Dormeo Octaspring, is a collection of unique hybrid mattresses. These combine Dormeo's innovative foam springs (Octasprings) with wire springs (wrapped pocket coils). Not unexpectedly, this is Dormeo's highest line of mattresses, ranging in height from 13 to 15 inches.
The Classic Line has three models: Dreamy, Celestial and Heavenly. Most retailers carrying these list them with the BED name ending (DreamyBED, etc.), indicating that the store models may either be 2015 versions, or may be simply following the example of earlier models.
The three models in the Dormeo Classic Line are respectively 13, 14 and 15 inches high. The comfort feel is cushion firm in Dreamy, medium plush in Celestial, and plush in Heavenly. These are classic hybrids, combining metal spring and foam support, working as both innerspring mattresses and memory foam mattresses. Each of these mattresses has pocket coils, a layer of EcoCell support foam, and MemoryCoil memory foam springs.
The 8" high pocket coils, about 1000 in King size (966 in Queen), yield a traditional (classic) feel. The independent response of these individually wrapped springs distributes support evenly to relieve pressure on larger parts (such as hips) and provide support to the lower back. This innerspring is zoned, with 16-gauge coils around the perimeter for edge support and 15-ga. under the heaviest area of the body. The rest of the coils are 16-gauge.
The EcoCell layer is only ¾" thick. It is there to stabilize the mattress and to smooth out the support. The same material is several inches high in other Dormeo Octaspring mattresses, since there it is the support core.
Above the EcoCell are the MemoryCoils. These are foam springs made of memory foam. Memory foam is a pressure-relieving material. The honeycomb configuration of the foam spring actually pumps air through when the sleeper's weight shifts, making the MemoryCoil layer cooler than a slab of memory foam. These are 2" high in Dreamy and Heavenly, and 3" in Celestial.
The MemoryCoils are topped with a 1½" layer of memory foam. The weight of the foam is 3-lb. in Dreamy and 5-lb. in the other two models.
In addition to the other layers, the Dormeo Classic Heavenly adds a 2" high pillow top of Talalay latex. In effect, this makes the Heavenly a triple hybrid mattress with coils, memory foam and latex.
The cover fabric on Classic Line models is not named, but it is a 4-way stretch knit. The side panels are wave air-mesh, allowing an exchange of air between the interior of the mattress and the outside for freshness and cooling.
Foundations compatible with Dormeo Classic Line mattresses are platform beds, flat-top divans, adjustable beds, and advanced-design box springs (such as Leggett & Platt's Semi-Flex). They should also work well with European wood slat bases.
Dormeo Classic Line mattresses are available in six sizes: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and Cal King. They are available through several retailers across the United States and at Sleep Country in Canada. The warranty is for 10 years non-prorated.
