From its introduction in 2012 until the introduction of the Octaspring 9500, the Octaspring 8500 was the top-of-the-line model of Octaspring memory foam mattresses assembled and sold by Dormeo Octaspring. It is tagged "Luxe Sleep." These models feature Octaspring, the innovative foam spring invented by Willy Poppe of Belgium.
With a Medium to Soft feel, the Octaspring 8500 is plusher than the Octaspring 8000 (Medium), the Octaspring 6500 (Medium to Firm), and the Octaspring 5500 (Firm). The somewhat plusher Octaspring 9500 is also rated Medium to Soft.
The 9500, 8500 and 8000 each have three layers of Octasprings. However, the composition and heights of these layers varies. Each of the layers in the Octaspring 8000 is 2" high, and each is 3" in the 9500. The top Octaspring layer in the 8500 is 3" high MemoryCoils. The middle and bottom layers are each 2" high EcoSprings. Altogether, these with the comfort layer, intermediate layers and base layer, add up to a 12" overall mattress height.
Cutaway of Octaspring 8500The cover of the Dormeo Octaspring 8500 has a "silky-soft" texture in the top panel. The borders (sides) are Dormeo's 360° wave air-mesh. This mesh lets air flow through to facilitate operation of the Octaspring Technology in cooling the mattress. The Octasprings are not only springs; they are air pumps, moving air into and out of the mattress.
The top layer of the Octaspring 8500 is a 1½" sheet of dual-comfort memory foam for conforming comfort just under the cover.
The top Octaspring layer has 3" MemoryCoils. These are arranged into three zones to tailor the comfort to major areas of the body. These zones overlap the zones of the middle foam spring layer.
Between the MemoryCoil layer and the layer of EcoSpring beneath it is a layer of Eco-Cell, a support-level polyurethane foam structured to be breathable. The same material is found between the middle and bottom Octaspring layers, and forms the 3" high support core at the bottom of the mattress. It is also the primary material of the EcoSpring support foam springs.
The middle and bottom layers of EcoSpring Octasprings are each 2" high. The middle layer has five zones for the head, shoulders-chest, mid-section, hips-thighs and feet. This orthopedic zoning promotes proper spinal posture as well as reducing pressure points.
Dormeo sells headboards and foundations to go with the Octaspring 8500. The foundations include a platform, three divans (Venice, Siena and Tiffany) and two adjustable bases (Infinity and Infinity Deluxe).
Dormeo has a 90 Night Tryout (sleep trial) for its mattresses, including the Octaspring 8500. This mattress model also has Dormeo's 25-Year Limited Warranty.
