The Ultimate Dreams Latex is the entry level model in the Latex Mattresses collection by DreamFoam Bedding, a marketing brand of Brooklyn Bedding. It is listed online by at least three retailers. The principal features of the 10" high Ultimate Dreams Latex are a latex comfort layer, a convoluted base foam support core, and a quilted cover of bamboo fibers. The buyer chooses the comfort level of the mattress.
The signature feature of this latex mattress is the 3" comfort layer of Talalay latex foam. Latex is well-known for its rubber-like resiliency (latex foam used to be called foam rubber). Natural latex is made from ruber tree sap, and is anti bacterial, anti-fungal and resistant to dust mites. Since it is rinsed after curing, it is mostly hypoallergenic.
Synthetic latex is hypoallergenic since it has no latex proteins, and is more durable, but natural latex has a better response. The two are often blended to improve durability and make it more hypoallergenic while having the performance and feel of the natural latex. The composition of the latex in the Ultimate Dreams Latex is listed as "natural" in several descriptions of this model.
Talalay latex is more breathable and more conforming than Dunlap latex. Latex is cooler than memory foam, and Talalay is even cooler then Dunlap, and more pressure relieving too.
The support core of the Ultimate Dreams Latex is 5½" of high density polyurethane foam. This provides underlying support for the whole mattress. It also prolongs the life of the softer comfort layer. The top surface of the base foam is convoluted. The two-role function of convolution is (1) to allow air to flow through the interior of the mattress, and (2) to increase pressure relief and motion isolation.
The cover fabric of the Ultimate Dreams Latex is composed of fibers extracted from crushed bamboo in a process somewhat like making linen from flax. Brooklyn Bedding says that spun bamboo is four times more absorbant than cotton. This fabric is quilted to 1½" of Reflex foam.
The comfort levels of this model are listed separately on Wayfair, with two varieties of the Ultra Plush. The fire retardant layer in one is natural cotton, and the description lists synthetic flame retardant chemicals "under the top layer." This could mean under the latex (polyurethane is much more flammable than latex), or it could mean under the quilting "layer."
The Ultimate Dreams 10" Ultra Plush Natural Latex Foam Mattress, which costs more, has a natural fire resistant barrier of wool (meaning no chemicals). And the support core is made of Dunlop latex.
The DreamFoam Bedding Ultimate Dreams Latex mattress is covered by Brooklyn Bedding with a 45 Day Trial Period and a 10-Year Warranty. It is compatible with foundations that offer sufficient support, such as a few box springs (especially with tension bars), slatted bases (slats less than 2" apart), platform beds and adjustable beds.
