Duxiana is a manufacturer with a very limited presence in the United States. The reason is because Duxiana, more commonly called Dux, is a Swedish company which hand-assembles each mattress. The resulting quality control appears to be top notch, and so is the price. At $5000 - $6500 depending on specific features purchased, this is quite possibly one of the most expensive retail beds available in the United States. Now lets look at what a $6500 bed is made of.

The Dux 8888, which is the top of the line from Duxiana, is a very complex sleep system. The design is so well used in its home country of Sweden that in many cases the bed becomes a family treasure, passed down through generations. This happens due to one of the simplest and most fundamental features: You can replace the “top” of the mattress independently from the rest of the bed. The top layer, called the Xupport top pad, is a 2.5 inch cotton covered latex foam pad. This is the sole comfort foam layer for the Dux 8888. With the Xupport removed, you will see three separate pads in the bed, a head, torso, and foot section. The sections are completely interchangeable innerspring units, which will allow you to tailor the support under a given area of your body. Below the chambers for the removable sections is another spring core. This is the main support layer for the mattress. At last, in the box spring, more Swedish-design springs are found. Between the three spring layers, you will find almost 3,300 springs in the Dux 8888. Lastly, as a benefit which we have never seen on an American-made bed, you can adjust the lumbar support independently on each side of the bed. This is done via a simple crank handle which is inserted into the foot of the box spring.

The Duxiana beds are certainly full of innovation and creativity. Most of the features used in the Dux 8888 are not found on any American bed, let alone all of these features. While it is certain that the price range for the Dux 8888 is out of range for most bed shoppers, this is certainly a mattress aimed at the select few who could afford the purchase and are close enough to one of the approximately 30 Duxiana retail stores in the United States.
