The Eastman House Latex Collection by Eastman House Bedding (EHB), a Bedding Industries of America company, is one of two EHB series of specialty sleep mattresses. This collection has latex mattresses, while the Specialty Collection consists of memory foam mattresses. All the other collections have pocket coil support.
On the Eastman House website, only three models in the Latex Collection are named and described: Latex II, Latex III, and Latex IV. However, at the bottom of the pages, EHB says, "All models are not included on our Web Sites due to the vast number of models we manufacture internationally." It is best to consider these three models as representative of the collection.
According to an Eastman House licensee, the latex mattresses were developed to meet customer demand. The latex in Eastman House latex mattresses is Talalay latex. Why Talalay? Talalay is more breathable than Dunlop. It also has a more even foam density, which is important in establishing consistent support and comfort.
In 2012, the entry level model of the Eastman House Natural Latex Collection had a Dunlop latex support core, while the rest had Talalay latex. The current collection has support cores of high density polyurethane foam. The support core provides underlying firmness, letting the comfort layer(s) above cushion the sleepers. In the Latex III, this foam is ultra-high density.
It appears that the mattress components listed on the EHB pge for this collection are in order from the support core to the cover. Atop the support core is a 2⅛" Comfort-Flex Cushion Layer. This is not latex. It is a firm cushioning material which serves as a transitional support layer between the support core and the comfort layers.
Most of the comfort layers in mattresses of the Eastman House Latex Collection are Talalay latex. Latex II and Latex III each have one latex layer; Latex IV has three.
The lowest comfort layer in each model is 24 ILD Talalay latex. This is 2" high in Latex II and Latex IV. It is 3" in Latex III.
The second comfort layer is ⅞" of high density polyurethane foam in Latex II and Latex III. In Latex IV it is 1" of 19 ILD Talalay latex.
Latex IV has a third comfort layer, 1" of 19 ILD Talalay.
Each Eastman House Latex Collection mattress has a zippered cover of a circular knit fabric, which is imported. Beneath this cover is a fire resistant sock.
Eastman House provides an 8" high wood foundation for their Latex Collection mattresses. The solid surface is designed to let the bottom of the mattress breathe while providing consistent support. It still has a little give, absorbing shock, making it better than the floor. The warranty states that a metal bed frame must also be used.
The company does not say that adjustable beds are compatible, so check with them before using a Latex Collection mattress with one.
Eastman House Latex Collection mattresses are available through Eastman's dealers. The warranty is for 12 years, non-prorated.
