The middle series of mattresses by Eclipse International (a.k.a. Eclipse Sleep Products - ESP) is the Conformatic Collection. As with the products in all ESP collections, these are innerspring mattresses. The other two series are the Perfection Rest Collection and the Contour Care Collection. Each group features a different coil type.*
The springs in this group are encased pocket coils. Pocket coils (also called Marshall coils) were invented five years before Eclipse had its start. A queen size Conformatic has 941 of these coiled springs. The arrangement is not disclosed, but the coil count suggests a square grid configuration. The advantage encased coils have over other coil types is their individual response. Not being tied to the next coil lets a spring go down as far as the place on the sleeper's body does, and no farther. Since a large part has only the spring beneath it to push, there is less pressure. Since another coil reaches a recessed part of the body, that part still has support. This evenly distriubuted support means less pressure on hips and shoulders, elbows and knees, and more support for the lower back and the feet.
Independent response means that motion on one side of the bed is not transferred to the other. This results in less partner distubance.
Each of these mattresses has Spinal Zone Technology. The pocket coils have foam encasement to hold the coils in place and provide edge support to the sleeping surface. The offset and Bonnell coils in the other two collections have perimeter rods. With Spinal Zone, there is a slightly lighter perimeter rod around the top of the center section of coils. This provides added support under the heaviest area of the body, the hips and thighs. Eclipse does not state this, but it would not surprise me if this section also has firmer coils.
The foam encasement has a feature known as LifeEdge. Wire springs shaped like butterflies (or bow ties, if you like) are inserted into the foam rail around the innerspring. This gives the rail more support.
The Conformatic Collection has four models listed on the Eclipse website. All are named after cities around the world, as are discontinued models. The four current listings are Fairfield, Lisbon, Portofino and Stockholm. Since they each have the same coil unit, they are differentiated by the comfort layers.
Each of the pocket coil innersprings is topped with an insulator pad of pre-compressed cotton and polyester. This protects the coils and the foam from each other.
The bottom comfort layer in each model is Eclipse's own upholstery foam. The firmness of this foam varies by model. In Fairfield it is firm. It is cushion firm in Lisbon and Portofino, and plush in Stockholm. This layer works with the other layers to determine the overall firmness of the mattress. Each mattress is available as either plush or firm.
By the way, Eclipse International, as well as Eastman House, uses Harvest Foam, a plant-based polyurethane foam. How much of the composition comes from plants is not disclosed. Most polyurethane foams using natural plant oils still have a high proportion of petroleum derivatives. However, some manufacturers claim to use a water-based process to avoid petroleum.
In each of the Conformatic models, the part above the upholstery foam is called a pillow top. It is 5" high in Fairfield, 4" in Lisbon, and 3" in Portofino and Stockholm. Each pillow top has a layer of Eclipse comfort foam. Like the upholstery foam, this also varies in firmness by model: plush in Fairfield, high density in Lisbon, plush in Portofino and Stockholm.
All models except Stockhom have a second layer in the pillow top. This layer is memory foam in Fairfield and Portofino, and natural latex in Lisbon.
The covers of Conformatic Collection mattresses are presumably an organic cotton damask. They are quilted to a fire resistant (FR) layer and quilting foam. The composition of the FR is not named, but other mattresses by Eclipse and Eastman House use compressed wool with silk or silica-infused rayon, both non-chemical means of meeting federal flammability standards.
The quilting foam is high density in Fairfield and Lisbon and plush in Portofino and Stockhom.
The foundation for a Comformatic Collection mattress can be a solid-top box base, an advanced design box spring (such as the Semi-Flex by Leggett & Platt), a platform bed, or an adjustable bed.
The Eclipse International warranty for these models is from 10 to 20 years. They are sold only through participating retailers. The models described here are representative of the collection. Not all models are shown by Eclipse on its website.
*Perfection Rest mattresses have offset coils, and Contour Care mattresses have Bonnell coils.
