Nature's Finest Latex Collection

The Nature's Finest Latex Collection is Englander Sleep Products' line of latex mattresses. The latex used in these mattresses is 100% natural latex, made from rubber tree sap. Englander shuns synthetic and blended latex.

Part of the collection has high-density 6" polyurethane foam support cores. The rest (organic latex mattresses) have support cores of firm latex. The latex is said by some to be Dunlop, but by others to be Talalay. Considering the sources, I believe the latter. Dunlop is used in some of their other mattresses which include latex. According to a comparison by one competitor, their latex and Englander's are both made by Latex International, and are Talalay.

Over the support core is a comfort layer of latex. Latex foam is naturally resilient (after all, it is also called foam rubber). Latex is also anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, hypoallergenic, and resitant to dust mites. Pinholes perforate the latex to enhance breathability for freshness and cooling. Like memory foam, latex conforms to the body for pressure relief on joints. Unlike memory foam, latex recovers quickly, which makes it easier for a user to change positions and to get out of bed (several users of memory foam mattresses feel trapped in the mattress). Latex is also more durable than memory foam and polyurethane foam.

The covers of Nature's Finest Latex Collection's organic mattresses are made of organic cotton. Quilting is kept to a minimum to allow the latex to be felt at the surface. The fire barrier is made of compressed wool so that no chemicals are used.

Models in the Nature's Finest Latex Collection are generally one-sided no-flip mattresses. Latex mattresses are heavier than innerspring mattresses, so this would be an advantage for some customers. However, being two-sided extends the life of a mattress when it is regularly flipped (one-sided models can benefit from being rotated). Oregon-based Tualatin Sleep Products, the Englander NorthWest manufacturer/owner, makes two-sided models for several of their retailers, such as Bedrooms & More in Seattle, who insist on it.

The commonly recommended foundations for latex mattresses are platform beds and wood slat bases. However, with latex mattresses, such as those in the Nature's Finest Latex Collection, the way they are constructed makes a difference. A poorly designed and built foundation can actually cause problems with the mattress. The slats and panels need to be sturdy enough for the weight of the mattress and the sleepers. And they need support in the center, both a beam and legs. These mattresses also work with adjustable beds. Old-style box springs with coils are definitely not recommended for latex mattresses.

Englander's warranty on Nature's Finest Latex mattresses is for 15 years, non-prorated.
