The "Fusion" in the name of the Synergy Fusion Foam Collection by Englander refers to the combining of visco memory foam and natural latex in a foam hybrid mattress. Foam hybrids are distinguished from regular hybrids by using two kinds of foam rather than foam and coils. What makes a mattress a hybrid is the close relative proportion of support provided by the two mediums. One inch of foam does not make an innerspring mattress a hybrid, but 5" of foam over 8" coils does.
The Synergy Fusion Foam mattresses were introduced sometime before late 2008. Since then several manufacturers have put latex and memory foam together in mattresses. Several customer reviews available online complain about body impressions in Englander mattresses. However, most of these concern models with memory foam in the top layer(s). One business owner in the bedding industry puts part of the blame on one-sided mattresses, which can't be flipped, and part on users who don't rotate their mattresses, especially in the break-in period, to keep a few places from bearing all the weight. According to him, direct customer feedback is mostly positive for Englander products, including Synergy models.
In a Synergy Fusion mattress, visco-elastic (memory) foam tops natural latex. Each has its own role.
The latex core is the supportive unit in a Synergy mattress. Latex foam (also known as foam rubber) is naturally firm and resilient, in other words "bouncy." Latex by itself, even when less firm, is too firm for some sleepers. More people today are looking for plusher beds. Latex is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and hypoallergenic. The latex foam in Synergy Fusion Foam beds is produced by the Dunlop process.
Memory foam is added for comfort. This is Englander's ViscoPedic memory foam, which is made by the Variable Pressure Forming Technology (VPF). Soy oil is used as a key ingredient, leaving an odor-free product. This foam also does not have toxic PBDE's. Memory foam tends to accumulate heat. The latex is credited with regulating temperatures, since it is also breathable. VPF also makes the memory foam air permeable. These foams also have pinholes to enhance ventilation.
The memory foam and the latex each reduce motion transfer, so one sleeper's movements do not disturb the other.
Latex mattresses and memory foam mattresses need surer support than that of the traditional type of box spring. Preferred foundations include platform beds, wood slats, and adjustable beds. The specific warranty for current Synergy Fusion Foam mattresses is not specified online, but models in the new E-Gel Collection are covered for 20 years.
The Synergy memory foam is portioned into seven zones with different firmnesses. This is to help it adapt to the weight and size of a sleeper. Zoning itself is fairly common among mattress companies, whether in foams or in innersprings, demonstrating the validity of this concept.
The covers of Synergy Fusion Foam mattresses are unquilted. The fiber is not disclosed online. Ask your retailer.
