Tension Ease (TE) is an innerspsring collection by Englander Sleep Products. It is listed under "Orthopedic Mattresses" and "Advanced Innersprings" by Englander. As the name implies, this mattress line is advertised as easing back tension by the way it supports a sleeper's body.
The key to this claim is the innerspring unit of 704 (queen-size) Marshall coils, more commonly known as "pocket coils." According to Englander, the Tension Ease coils are made of "high tensile steel." They are placed in pockets of a "specially designed fabric" to make them quieter. The company then says that these encased coils are "ultrasonically welded together and along the top." Since the coils themselves are in these pockets, it appears that it is the pockets which are "welded" to each other, leaving the coils to respond independently as further described.
Each coil in a Tension Ease mattress responds individually to weight placed on it. The effect is for the innersprings to conform to the contours of the user's body so that a few prominent points do not bear the entire burden. The intended result is to reduce or eliminate pressure points while keeping the spine in proper alignment.
Another effect of the pocket coil system is the dampening of transfer of motion. What this means is that when two people are sleeping on an Englander Tension Ease mattress, if one moves, it should not disturb the other one.
An Englander Tension Ease mattress is made more comfortable by layers of foam and/or fiber above the Marshall coil innerspring support core, and by the quilted cover. It is here that the several Tension Ease models differ. The composition, thickness, and firmness of these layers and quilting materials vary by model. For instance, in the TEBlack Line series, the Super Plush Boxtop has 3 layers of "ultra foam" and one of memory foam quilted into the cover, while the Luxury Firm just has 2 layers of "ultra foam." There are several models, and names can vary from one retailer to another.
Tension Ease mattresses come in Twin, Full, Queen, King, and Californa King sizes. Edge support is provided by 3-gauge edge rods, and the foundations are framed with spruce. The warranty is for 10 years, though some retailers offer 15. I have found retailers carrying Englander Tension Ease mattresses on both coasts and in the middle of the country.
The salesman hyped this maker and although I had never heard of them I took a chance. My mistake go with what you know or do your homework.
Mattress Rating: Mattress Durability:
Terrible, innerspring came through the top and the edges ballooned out all within 6 months and the warranty was a joke.
Mattress Support:
None, I ended up flipping the no turn mattress onto the hard surface and bought a 2" foam topper so I could use it without sinking or rolling off the edge.
Mattress Features and Benefits as Advertised:
none as advertised
Quality:
Bad, don't waste your money on this brand.
