iComfort Directions Acumen Firm
The
Acumen Firm, third model in the
iComfort Directions Collection of
memory foam mattresses made by
Serta, differs from the
Acumen Plush in two key respects. First, it does not have
EverCool® GfX Memory Foam (according to
Serta, though a few retailers list this among the features). Instead of
Serta PillowSoft™ Foam, the
Acumen Firm has
Serta® Support Foam. This brings the firmness level of this mattress to Medium Firm (
aka Cushion Firm). Like the
Plush model, the
Firm has the signature features of this collection:
Thermo°Cool™ yarn fabric cover with
TENCEL® fibers,
Cool Action™
Dual Effects® Gel Memory Foam,
Pods™ Gel-Activated Support, and
Comfort Last® Foam Core with
Ultimate Edge® Support foam encasement.
The
cover of the
iComfort Directions Acumen Firm features
Thermo°Cool™ yarn cover fabric, which contains
TENCEL® fibers for wicking moisture from the sleeping surface to evaporate. This both cools the surface and keeps it dry. The cover also a
FireBlocker flame retardant fiber pad.
Next down is 2 inches of
Cool Action™
Dual Effects® Gel Memory Foam. Updated from
Cool Action™ Gel Memory Foam, this
memory foam is infused with two kinds of
gel. The original
Cool Action™ has
Serta's
MicroSupport® gel, concentrated in the foam under areas of the body needing more support.
Dual Effects® adds
MicroCool+™ gel for temperature regulation. This gel has
Phase Change Materials (PCMs), which change their physical state when needed to absorb or release heat.
Under the
Cool Action™
Dual Effects® is a layer of
Serta® Support Foam. According to
Serta, this material "combines gentle cushioning with extra support, for more firmness at the sleep surface."
The
Pods™ Gel-Activated Support is decidely different.
Serta says this: "Strategically positioned macro-gel discs work with our Comfortlast® Foam Core support system to help provide extra push back support from the deepest part of the mattress and a firmer seating edge. Featured exclusively in our iComfort Directions mattresses."
The
Comfort Last® Foam Core provides overall support for the
iComfort Directions Acumen Firm mattress. This 6" high
polyurethane foam block is highly resilient to undergird the comfort layers and prevent bottoming out. This also increases the life of the softer foams. The support core is extra firm.
Like other mattresses in the
iComfort Directions Collection, the
Acumen Firm can be used with
Serta's own
StabL-Base flat
foundation (available in 9" Standard and 5½" Low Profile) and
Motion Custom™ Adjustable Foundation.
The
Acumen Firm carries
Serta's 25-year limited warranty. This model is available through several retailers, in stores and online.
