iSeries Approval Super Pillow Top

The iSeries Approval Super Pillow Top is the top model in the new iSeries Hybrid Sleep System collection by mattress manufacturer Serta. The Hybrid Sleep System is a result of Serta's updating of their iComfort and iSeries lines early 2014.

As with all the models in the iSeries Hybrid Sleep System, the Approval features the iComfort Cool Action™ Dual Effects® Gel Memory Foam and Serta's Duet® Coil Individually Wrapped Coil-in-Coil Support System.

Cool Action™ Dual Effects® Gel Memory Foam (3) is one of the updated features added by Serta to its iComfort and iSeries lines in 2014. With a greater proportion of gel than previous gel memory foam, Dual Effects is infused with two types of gel: MicroCool+ and MicroSupport. the MicroSupport gel is to make the conforming memory foam more supportive and resilient. The MicroCool+ gel, combined with the memory foam's open-cell design, is to keep the foam from becoming too warm.

The Duet® Coil Individually Wrapped Coil-in-Coil Support System (5) is the primary support for the iSeries Approval Super Pillow Top mattress. Each 2-in-1 dual pocket coil is two coils made from one wire. The taller outer coil has fewer turns and is more responsive, conforming even to a very lightweight person. The shorter inner coil has more turns, making it firmer to provide deep support. This enables it to support a heavier person. this make the Coil-in-Coil Support System suitable for sleeping partners of greatly different sizes and weights.

Since these are pocket coils, the whole unit conforms to body contours. The coil count in the updated iSeries line has been boosted to 1008 (Queen). This is to increase the level of support and give the mattress a finer level of conformity. Edge support and pocket coil containment rely on the BestEdge foam encasement.

The iSeries Approval has two layers of Serta's PillowSoft™ Foam, one above (2) and the other (4) below the Cool Action™ Dual Effects® Gel Memory Foam. PillowSoft is an extra soft material, added to help make the mattress more cushioning.

The top comfort layer (1) in the iSeries Approval Super Pillow Top is Serta's EverCool® Gfx Memory Foam. The key ingredient is fibers of "graphene" (a form of graphite). Serta claims that these fibers are very conductive, carrying heat away from the surface. Graphite and diamond are both crystaline forms of pure carbon (another manufacturer claims to infuse its materials with "diamond dust" for cooling).

The actual height of individual layers may vary among sets of retailers, but the overall height is about 15 inches. The Cool Action is ¾" thick. The EverCool and PillowSoft layers are each about 1" thick. The top cover fabric is quilted with PilloFill and FireBlocker. The pillow top has the EverCool Gfx and the first PillowSoft, with an innerpanel separating it from the lower comfort layers of CoolAction and PillowSoft.

Serta's StabL-Base is the recommended foundation for the iSeries Approval Super Pillow Top mattress. It is also compatible with adjustable bases, such as the Motion Perfect.

The iSeries Approval is available through several national, regional and local retailers, both online and in stores. It is covered against manufacturing and materials defects by Serta's 25-year limited warranty.
