King Koil has introduced a new collection of models for its Posture Sense brand. These five innerspring mattresses are prosaically named Posture Sense 100, Posture Sense 200, Posture Sense 300, Posture Sense 400, and Posture Sense 500. Most retailers still carry the Posture Sense Response. The new line will begin showing as the Response models are sold out. Heights of the models are not in the company's descriptions, but assuming a 9" foundation, the photos indicate a range of 11 to 14 inches. Comfort levels range from id1 (Very Plush) to id4 (Firm to Medium Firm).
The interior components of the 2015 Posture Sense mattresses are decribed by King Koil, but not the cover. Judging by general usage and photos of the models, the cover fabric is a knit.
The innerspring in the 2015 Posture Sense mattresses is King Koil's Surface Flex Coil System. These are continuous coils, engineered to be more flexible than the original continuous coils. The role of these coils is to provide orthopedic support for the spine.
Surrounding the coils is King Koil's Excellent Edge FE foam encasement. This protects the coils from the sides and provides edge support to the sleeping surface. Edge support makes the entire surface usable, even to the edge. No rolling off when the edge sags.
Atop the coil system is the upholstery, three or more layers of foams. All of these models have King Koil's Perfect Contour Foam (the firmness and density depend on the model) and iFusion. The upper two models have High Performance Foam.
Perfect Contour Foam has a textured surface (similar to convoluted foam). This makes the foam more resposive to the shape of a sleeper's body, partially conforming to its contours. The Posture Sense models differ in firmness.
The Posture Sense 100 (id4) has two layers of Perfect Contour Foam. The top layer is Extra Firm and the second layer is Enhanced Cushion Firm. Together they make the overall firmness firm.
The two Perfect Contour layers in Posture Sense 200 (id2) are Super Soft and Enhanced Ultra Soft. They are about the same thicknesses as those in the 100, but Plush instead of Firm, giving this model and overall comfort level of Medium Plush or Plush.
The Posture Sense 300 (id1), the plushest of the Posture Sense 2015 models, has the same two Perfect Contour Foam layers as the 200, but is plusher. The difference is accounted for in the iFusion layers of these two models. The 300 appears to be slightly higher than the 200 and 100.
In the Posture Sense 400 (id2), there is only one layer of Super Soft Perfect Contour Foam. But this model also has three layers of High Performance Foam (see below), making it the second highest model in this series. The purpose of the additional layers is more conformity and cushioning.
The Posture Sense 500 (id2) has a pillowtop or eurotop configuration. Like the 300, the Perfect Contour Foam layers are Super Soft and Enhanced Ultra Soft. But they are separated by two other foam layers, iFusion and High Performance. The 500 is the highest model in this series, about 14 inches.
King Koil describes their iFusion foam as "The combination of open-cell memory foam, natural airflow™, and pressure-relieving gel cells." This gel-infused memory foam was designed for both conforming support and temperature regulation. The memory foam is open-cell. The purpose of the memory foam is pressure relief. The gel makes the memory foam more supportive and also conducts heat away.
In the Posture Sense 100 and Posture Sense 200, the iFusion layer, just below the second Perfect Contour layer, provides lumbar support, being confined to the middle third of the mattress. The iFusion layer in the other three models extends the entire length of each mattress.
The iFusion layer in the Posture Sense 300 is full length. This model has the same Perfect Contour layers as the 200, but the extra iFusion makes it plusher.
The Posture Sense 400 also has iFusion as the third layer down, but it is sandwiched between two layers of High Performance Foam. However, in the Posture Sense 500 the layer below the iFusion is the lower layer of Perfect Contour.
In the 2015 Posture Sense series, High Performance Foam is found only in the top two models. Posture Sense 500 has only one layer of this foam, while Posture Sense 400 has three. In the 400 the additional two layers are beneath the iFusion. They are labelled Super Soft. The overall comfort rating (id2) is Plush or Medium Plush.
The Posture Sense 500 has a fifth layer of Visco Plus Memory Foam, which is without gel. Having memory foam this far down in the mattress adds to the overall conformity.
King Koil supplies a Natural Wood Foundation for use with its Posture Sense mattresses. This wood-framed foundation is like a platform with a slatted top. Amish-made, it is covered with fabric matching the mattress. These mattresses are also compatible with platform beds, European wood slats and adjustable beds. Since this is a continuous coil mattress, it may work with a traditional box spring, but ask first.
The King Koil warranty for mattresses in the 2015 Posture Sense series is for 10 years, non-prorated.
