Among the new lines introduced by Kingsdown in January 2015 is the Miro Collection of memory foam mattresses. This is one of three new Kingsdown specialty sleep collections; the others are Sleep Haven (latex mattresses) and Elliptica (foam coil mattresses). These were unveiled under the company's new tagline: "Sleep, Made Smarter."
Kingsdown claims that Miro models are unlike other memory foam mattresses. This claim is partly based on the way gel is used in Miro Collection models. The comfort layers of a Miro mattress have two kinds of gel memory foam. The top layer is Airflow memory foam containing liquid gel. The memory foam is perforated for airflow ventilation. The liquid gel offes fluid support, similar to that of a waterbed without the excess weight and the threat of a messy leak. Liquid gel is also superior to gel beads in conducting heat away from the surface.
The second layer down of a Miro Collection mattress is memory foam infused with gel beads. These have different support properties, and heat conduction is not as effective as liquid gel–not as critical in the second layer as in the first.
Deep down support in Miro mattresses comes from the 6˝" Progressive Core. This support foam is made with interlocking sections. These sections can be arranged in zones for personalized comfort. The contours of the foam promote bi-directional airflow. This foam core also dampens motion transfer to minimize partner disturbance.
Near the bottom of its description of the Miro Collection memory foam mattresses, Kingsdown has a comparison of these models with TEMPUR-Pedic's TEMPUR-Cloud Luxe Breeze. The two have several features in common–temperature regulating cover, gel-infused memory foam, base foam layer–but Miro mattresses have some features not in the TEMPUR-Cloud Luxe Breeze: liquid gel memory foam, airflow channels in each layer, personalized postural support and personalized support zones with 2-way air flow.
Acceptable foundations for Miro Collection memory foam mattresses do not include traditional box springs and widely-spaced slats. Platform beds, solid-top box foundations and adjustable beds are ideal for this type of mattress.
