Kingsdown introduced the Sleep Smart Collection in 2013. The innovation of the Sleep Smart system is the use of modern electronic technology to measure and evaluate the user's quality of sleep, then make adjustments. Kingsdown has an acronym for this system S.M.A.R.T. (Scientific Measurement And Response Technology). In 2015, Kingsdown says, "Sleep Smart is the first, and only, mattress with pro-active, customized support."
In 2013, Kingsdown did not state in its materials how the support level of the Sleep Smart mattresses is adjusted, but air support seemed likely. Now we know that is the case. There are two models in the Sleep Smart Collection, Intuitive and Progeny. Intuitive makes the adjustments on the basis of the measurements taken of the sleepers. Progeny takes and processes the same measurements. but makes recommendations, and the user makes the adjustments.
Sleep Smart beds are available in three sizes: Twin XL, Queen and King. In Queen and King, the two sides are monitored and adjusted separately.
Kingsdown has let several technical writers test their Sleep Smart mattresses, especially the Intuitive, even as late as early 2015 (some may still be testing them). Along the way, the company has been making adjustments to the mattresses and the controls. Some of the reviewers say the Sleep Smart Intuitive is worth the high price (almost $11K for Queen size with an adjustable bed), but some others have their complaints, such as "too hot" and "noisy." Hopefully, their reports will help Kingsdown to improve the product.
The cost of a Sleep Smart mattress without the motion base is only half as much for Progeny as for Intuitive.
Sleep Smart beds are connected by Bluetooth to a mobile device. The app is formatted for Android, and the default device is a Galaxy Tab 2. It remains to be seen whether an app for Apple is forthcoming.
The current Kingsdown Sleep Smart page compares the Sleep Smart mattresses with three competitors' models: the x12 by Sleep Number, TEMPUR-Choice Luxe by Tempur-Pedic, and Comforpedic IQ by Simmons.
The Sleep Smart mattresses come with either an adjustable bed or a flat foundation. Low profile is available. The Intuitive and the Progeny come with Kingsdown's 10-year warranty.
