Kingsdown Sleep to Live Collection

The mattresses in the Sleep to Live Collection by Kingsdown are as individual as the customers who buy them. No surprise! Customers select their Sleep to Live mattresses by using the bedMATCH diagnostic system.

scientifically-recommended-support - Scientifically recommended support

The bedMATCH system determines the best mattress for a person's needs and preferences, taking into account body type and sleeping position. Kingsdown's description of the system says, "Using 18 statistical measurements, over 1,000 scientific calculations and the information you provide about your sleep preferences, bedMATCH identifies the optimal postural support and pressure relief for your body."

The purpose of bedMATCH is to get beyond several minutes of trying a mattress on the showroom floor by calculating from measurable factors which affect ones quality of sleep. The company cites the difference in support needs between being awake and being completely relaxed. Or, as Kingsdown says, "Let science determine the right bed for you." A description of how bedMATCH works is on the Kingsdown website.

Features

There are several significant features common to Sleep to Live Collection mattresses. Details of these features (for instance thickness, density and placement) are adjusted as specified by the bedMATCH diagnostic system.

Scientifically-recommended Support – This refers specifically to the bedMATCH system. The model names for the mattresses relate to the bedMATCH recommendations. There are five numbered series–200, 300, 400, 600, 800–and four levels of support–Gold (plush), Green (medium plush), Blue (medium firm) and Red (extra firm). Some of these parameters differ among retailers; for instance, with one retailer the plush mattresses are Tan instead of Gold. As to the series, the lowest mattresses are in the 200 Series, and the highest in 800.

Specialized Lumbar Support BandKingsdown's Sleep to Live mattresses have a lumbar support band in the middle of the mattress. Composed of either latex or gel-infused memory foam, this band is there to provide vital support to the lower back.

Gel-infused Memory Foams with Airflow – Used in at least some of the Sleep to Live models, memory foam infused with gel is one of the options in the specialized lumbar support band. The role of the memory foam is conformity to the shape of the target area while gel disperses heat for dissipation. Not specified in the descriptions, this may be either the older longer-memory version of memory form or the newer short-memory version with quicker recovery.

Latex Foam with Graphite and Gel InfusionsLatex foam is a highly resilient material which may be all natural (from rubber tree sap), synthetic latex, or a blend. Latex at or near the top of the mattress may be infused with gel or graphite for enhanced durability, support and cooling.

High Coil CountsKingsdown claims that the coil counts in Sleep to Live mattresses lead the bedding industry. The additional coils and greater coil density serve for more precise conformity in the support (for more pressure relief) and a longer lifetime for the mattress. The intial goal of a high coil count is deeper, more restful sleep for restoration.

Individually Wrapped Coils in the Innerspring – Wrapped coils, also called pocket coils (or Marshall coils), were invented to relieve presure on joints (especially soulders and hips) while supporting the middle and lower spine. As an added benefit, pocket coils also minimize the transfer of motion from one side of the bed to the other, so that when you get into or out of bed (or just turn over), your sleeping partner snoozes undisturbed.

Specialized Lumbar Support Band gel-infused-airflow Luxurious Latex Foam with Advanced Technology

Foam Coils – This is a new development. Foam coils are also found in Kingsdown's Elliptica Collection. These foam springs, coupled with the wire coil innerspring, make Sleep to Live beds genuine hybrid mattresses.

Cooling Fibers – Gel fibers and Climatouch fiber are used in the top of the Sleep to Live mattress for temperature control. Gel conducts heat away from the surface for dissipation, but the functioning of Climatouch is, for now, undescribed.

Full Body Surround® Edge Support – This is foam encasement, a wall of foam around the mattress. There are actually two foam walls: one around the innerspring, and the other around the foam coils. these protect the coils and also support the edge of the sleeping surface. This enables the top of the mattress to be used clear out to the edges with no rolling off because of a sagging edge.

Kingsdown does not describe the cover of a Sleep to Live mattress, but the photos reveal a Damask fabric on the top panel with either tufting or tack-and-jump quilting. The upper side panels (borders) are smoother and visibly breathable, while the lower borders are vertically quilted in a pattern of columns. This lower fabric is also apparently Damask.

The default foundation for a Sleep to Live mattress is a wood base with a flat or closely-slatted top which is upholstered to complement the mattress. It is called a "box spring" by some retailers, even though there are no springs in it (this is continued usage from the original box springs). These mattresses are also compatible with adjustable beds and platform beds. Old-style box springs are not advisable with pocket coils, but an advanced design torsion-bar box spring, such as the Semi-Flex by Leggett & Platt, is suitable.

Sleep to Live individualized mattresses are covered by Kingsdown with a 10-year warranty. Kingsdown does not list a sleep trial period–that is left to the retailers. A Sleep to Live mattress can be prescribed and ordered at any retailer who has a bedMATCH station.
