Kluft Mattresses

E.S. Kluft & Company says about its Kluft brand mattresses, "ONLY E.S. Kluft has actually achieved a truly better way to build a mattress. With a U.S. patent for design. Kluft beds are America’s only NATURALLY influenced, luxury handcrafted mattresses." The diagrams on the Kluft Mattress website do show innovation in mattress design and construction. The signature design feature of this innovation is the filling of an otherwise empty chamber with specially prepared fibers. This is to eliminate a "drum effect" when there is a change of weight or position on the bed, making the mattress quiet. It also augments the support of the mattress and prolongs its life.

The Kluft line of beds includes the most expensive mattress made in the United States, as well as mattresses less than a tenth that price. Kluft is one of two brands made and distributed by E.S. Kluft & Company. The other one is the luxury brand Aireloom.

At this time, the Kluft brand has seven collections of beds. Five of the collections are innerspring matresses: Beyond Luxury, Royal Standard - Original, Royal Standard - Lux Top, Royal Sovereign, and Versailles. The other two, Signature Series and Luxury Latex, have latex support cores.

The innerspring models differ in the configuration and density of the coils, the composition and arrangement of the comfort layers, the cover fabrics, and the foundations. but they all share Kluft's "Reflex™ premium bio-foam perimeter encasement" and the "fill box design." Within each collection and series there are differences among models, especially those customized for specific retailers.

The innerspring units are described variously as "Calico English coils unit with 1,800 - 2,050 individually wrapped coils, shape retention strapping, and lumbar support" (Beyond Luxury); "Zoned, honey comb nested, individually wrapped coils with lumbar support" (Royal Standard - "Original" and "Lux Top" - and Royal Sovereign); "individually wrapped coils with lumbar support" (Versailles). The support cores of the Signature Series and the Luxury Latex mattresses are Dunlop/Talalay latex core (some models) or bio-based high density core (some models), both with lumbar support.

The most diversity among Kluft mattress collections is found in the comfort layers. This is the most readily customizable area for producing retailer-special models. Due to the variety even within collections, descriptions of this for collections on the Kluft website are labeled "Range of Comfort/Upholstery Layers." Here are some examples of these ranges:

Beyond Luxury
• Natural Talalay latex
• Zoned Talalay latex
• Joma wool
• Cashmere/mohair
• PillowFlex™ quilting foams
• Enegia™ pressure relieving foams
• Luxury bio-foams
• Staple/certified organic cotton
• High density suport base foam

Signature Series and Luxury Latex
• Natural Talalay latex
• Dunlop base foam
• Visco elastic memory foam (some models)

Royal Standard - Lux Top
• Joma/cashmere (some models)
• Joma wool
• Natural Talalay latex
• Certified Organic Cotton layer
• Reflex™ luxury bio-foams
• Pin convoluted foams
• Plush convoluted quilting foam
• High density suport base foam

The cover fabrics for the Kluft mattresses are Jacquard damask, Oeko-Tex certified fabrics, Forrestex, mercerized cotton, Belgian woven damask, heavy stretch knit, and rayon damask, with two or more used in each collection, sometimes in combination or a blend.

As to the foundations for the Kluft brand of beds, the Divan foundation for the Beyond Luxury collection is essentially a wood framed box spring, described as being made with individually wrapped coils, hand-tied on some models, and sustainable forest lumber. The springs for the other innerspring collections are "8 way hand-tied" on a frame made of "sustainable forest lumber." The two non-spring models have solid foundations described as constructed from bio-degradable and sustainable forest lumber.

Mattresses in the Versailles collection carry a 10 year non-prorated warranty. All the others have a 20/10 year prorated warranty.
